  • Kept internal network and remote Nevada site connected and all computers, printers and hand-held tablet connected.

Network Infrastructure Manager (IT Manager)

Responsibilities:

  • Designed and migrated obsolete 3Com switched and hub based network that utilized Novell’s Border Manager as a firewall to a fully Cisco based infrastructure.
  • Cisco network upgrade utilized two ASA 5520 firewalls to build a VPN network tunnel to each of the small remote sites in San Diego and San Francisco. Both remotes sites utilized Microsoft’s Secure Server for the site end of the VPN tunnel. When finished used Cisco's dashboard to monitor the ASAs.
  • Was site security officer.
  • For the Cisco network upgrade both large sites utilized Cisco ASA 5520s to connect with each through a VPN tunnel as well as to the two small sites. At the two small sites, a Microsoft Secure Server was used as the VPN connection so we didn't have to buy another Cisco ASA.
  • All sites had Cisco Routers at the top of the network and Cisco switches below that, all connections were switched from the servers to the desktops. For the main sites a Cisco 4500 series switch with two Supervisor III and 1GB connection to servers and fiber connections to Cisco switches on remote floors.
  • Used EIGRP as the routing protocol.
  • Daily monitored traffic and firewall logs. As it was the State of California, the State’s data center was responsible for the network connections between sites as well as to the Internet. I was responsible for the routing inside to our N-Tier servers (3 levels).
  • Linux design, administration, support and maintenance of customer facing three tiered systems.
  • Performed post mortems on crashed servers or on compromised public servers (this problem practically disappeared after replacing Novel's Border Manager with a Cisco ASA) as well as working with HR to scan a user's computer if they were suspected of some transgression. Any system issues from a virus to a compromised server was reported to the CHP's computer crimes division to report issues, server name, how it was compromised and what was done to fix it and prevent it from happening in the future as well as providing all logs pertaining to the attack.
  • Responsible for the four direct reports, one in Sacramento and three in Los Angeles as well as having dotted lines in the helpdesk department if I needed their help.

  • Migrated corporate system (Novell 5.1 with NDS) to Windows and Active directory and Microsoft Exchange with Outlook on the desktop.
