I assess customer needs, I make recommendations for the type of circuit (DSL, T1, Satellite etc) I determine the quantity of jacks, patch panels, indoor and outdoor cable (fiber optics, cat 3, 5 or 6, coaxial, and various other types), raceways, switches, routers, firewalls, cabinets, Ethernet extenders and any other equipment needed.
  • I obtain quotes from the telephone company and order the circuit; I determine the best way to connect the remote buildings, using outdoor cable or Ethernet channel extenders such as Pairgain units, utilizing 2-4 wires. I obtain quotes from Graybar and other sources.
  • I order the equipment,(usually Panduit or Hubbell) inventory the equipment once it arrives, I go to the site and install the equipment, install and ground the cabinet or rack. I install and certify the cabling in the offices, warehouses, indoor and outdoor cabling, I then support the site and troubleshoot any cable and equipment problems.
  • I have researched and tested hardware and software needed on the network such as monitoring software, remote access devices, switches, routers, and made recommendations upon my findings, I developed wiring standards and IP address standards, assigned IP addresses, assisted in Disaster recovery site, I assisted in setting up and operating video teleconferencing rooms, including dual screens and projectors, PC’s on the desktop, cameras and microphones spanning the whole room, patch panels and all cabling.
