  • APM solution provided application visibility from the first mile to the last mile (agentless, multitier analysis, application component analysis, network/server monitoring in addition to transaction tracing). This visibility was established through three primary mechanisms; End User Experience (EUE), Application Analytics and Business Service Management.
  • Compuware APM leveraged two approaches to EUE; Synthetic or Real User Monitoring. Both approaches provided value were typically used in a complementary manner to gain a holistic view of service delivery to a user/customer/employee.
  • Synthetic EUE initiated the simulation of a user(s) executing a business transaction against a defined schedule from a defined set of locations. For example: every 15 minutes Log in to Internet Banking and perform a balance enquiry from locations across the globe i.e. West Africa (Nigeria ), South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town ), London, New York and Tokyo.
  • This Synthetic tests allowed EUE to be measured on a 24/7 basis and from any number of locations depending on the application and its user base.
  • Compuware’s APM Real User Monitoring (RUM) was also introduced as a means of gaining visibility across a much broader data set i.e. all user(s) of an application(s). It also addressed the challenge of synthetically injecting fictitious/test data into financial systems by non-intrusively monitoring all users and all transactions 24/7.
  • Compuware’s RUM solution extends this capability in to keys ways by first covering a broader set of application architectures/technologies than any other competitor and more importantly is able to do this at a business transaction level. Secondly it extends the ability to monitor users beyond the firewall.
  • Compuware’s APM Application Analytics solution provided Application Analytics that provide detailed visibility across 4 tiers; Client (execution of application code across browser, Java/.Net Thick Client or Native Mobile Application), Network (LAN/WAN visibility on network traffic), Server (Web, Application, Database or Mainframe) and Application (the ability to trace a transaction across the data center while also providing diagnostic visibility down to a line of code).
  • Compuware’s Business Service Management solution enabled the bank to establish a framework that allows for real-time business-based dash-boarding and reporting for both internal and external application stakeholders. It achieved this through an easily configured service model that rapidly defines the relationship between business and IT services, thus enabling reporting that provides relevant role-based visibility, impact analysis and most importantly consolidates information across the technical (other monitoring systems), business (business-relevant data from the monitored applications), service desk and CMDB where necessary, into a single pane of glass.
