AIX Sys Admin

Responsibilities:

  • Worked as a AIX system and Tivoli Storage Manager consultant on several projects such as Storage Optimization, Operating System Backup and Recovery strategies, Standardization of UNIX system data backup policies, Migration to new P5 hardware and new system build.
  • Worked in coordination with Storage team, Data protection and compliance team, DBAs, and application developers in the design and implementation of disaster recovery strategies and data back-up retention policies.
  • Implemented and tested OS backup and recovery procedure using TSM backup and recovery (sysback) as well as Oracle, Sybase, and DB2 data backup and recovery standards using Tivoli Data Protection (TDPO).
  • Assisted in the migration of stand-along servers to P5 hardware. Installed new system using cloned imaged (sysback) and NIM server.
  • Provided remote support and management for LPARs and VIO servers through the Hardware Management Console (HMC). Configured and managed local, SAN and NAS disk resources on AIX systems.
  • Provided daily operation support - review trouble tickets and provide immediate assistance to customers, troubleshoot and resolve problems; review system logs and backups- and participated in On-Call rotation in a 24x7 support of environment with high user impact.
  • This assignment required creating and documenting backup and recovery procedure with TSM for several environments running AIX 5.3
  • Duties included, but not limited to, configuration and maintenance of the NIM environment; NIM resource management; Installation and upgrading of the operating system on NIM clients.
  • Created step-by-step procedure for backing up the OS using TSM sysback, mksysb and savevg utilities.
  • Tested and documented several methods for recovering AIX servers through NIM: Network boot, mksysb and sysback installation and recovery.
  • Mentored other Linux administrators through some basic AIX system management tasks as well the several methods of installation and recovery of the operating system.
  • Some other activities included configuring EMC disks on the LPARs, clearing SAN disks for storage system decommission.
  • Some exposure to Confidential Smart Analytics System and Confidential Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms, On-Call support.
