Position Overview:
The user experience engineer will perform the full range of responsibilities associated with user centered design methodology for software development. He/she will also conduct reviews of software products and provide guidance on how to remediate usability issues. He/she must be able to explain usability principles and techniques to both technical team members and business sponsors.
Essential Job Functions:
- Interact directly with business sponsors and subject matter experts to understand business requirements and constraints
- Carry out user modeling and task analysis, and develop personas and scenarios
- Conduct user research and communicate findings of user research
- Create or advise on content architecture and navigation design
- Understand complex user requirements and technical constraints, and translate them into simple user interface
- Design page level layout, page flow, and task fulfillment
- Propose design solutions for identified usability problems in existing applications
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, etc., for large, complex applications
- Ensure application level consistency with respect to visual design and interaction components
- Adhere to design, usability, and standards
- Make recommendations to solve complex interaction problems and improve overall user experience with an application and across different applications
- Conduct expert reviews of websites and web applications
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field
- Role Specific Experience: 5+ years of experience
- High level of visual design expertise
- Usability engineering, user centered design
- Information architecture, navigation design
- Interaction design and graphic design
- User modeling and task analysis
- HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash
Certification Requirements:
- Usability Analyst certification desirable
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of usability engineering and information architecture
- Advanced knowledge of interaction design
- Advanced understanding of information systems and application development methodologies
- Advanced understanding of the trade-offs between optimum user experience and technical, information security, and business constraints, and ability to propose appropriate compromises
- Knowledge of Basic HTML, JavaScript, CSS
- Knowledge of Photoshop, Corel, or similar software
- Knowledge of Basic Dreamweaver, FrontPage or similar software
- Knowledge of toryboarding/prototyping, Axure, usability testing, and survey tools
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired Skills/Abilities (not required but a plus):
- Pluses for Levels (level II, III)
