Front-end Developer 
Boston, MA 
Long-term Contracts (3+ months to start) 
 
As a Front-end Engineer, you'll join the first-ever Digital Services team for our client, working in a collaborative environment with product managers, business analysts, Drupal developers, and UX designers to help transform the way that the state government interacts with the public. You'll be responsible for translating design mockups into functional and accessible production-ready code, creating lightweight proof-of-concept prototypes, collaborating with back-end engineering teams, and working with Drupal themes, with a focus on the current redesign of our primary website.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Build web applications with high-quality, responsive, accessibility-compliant code
  • Ensure cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device compatibility
  • Work closely with product management and design to understand stakeholder requirements and craft elegant, usable, and technically-sound solutions
  • Extend and implement our internal UI pattern library
  • Work closely with back-end engineers to ensure code quality and integration
  • Help to create code documentation to assist with ongoing support and maintenance of applications
  • Collaborate with vendors and other technical partners as needed
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • At least 5-7 years of experience within software development
  • Expertise in modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Strong experience with component based UI development, writing semantic & accessible code
  • Experience writing highly structured JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of CSS preprocessors like LESS or SASS
  • Experience with cross-platform, cross browser, and cross-device development and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to write documentation for both developers and non-technical audiences
  • Solid understanding of responsive design principles
  • Experience using Git version control
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience working with PatternLab
  • Familiar with atomic design methodology
  • Experience with React
  • Solid understanding of Section 508 compliance
  • Experience with Drupal and Drupal theming
  • Experience with design tools like Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience working with one or more modern Javascript frameworks such as Backbone, Ember, or Angular
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or IT strongly preferred; graduates from a bootcamps or other certification programs will also be considered
Top 3 Technical Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of experience within software development
  • Expertise in modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with component based UI development.
