The Applications Support Specialist is responsible for the deployment, monitoring and maintenance of the JNET custom applications and associated hardware and software. An Applications Support Specialist is recognized as a technical leader and critical technical resource across multiple disciplines. The individual in this position provides oversight and direction to other members of the JNET applications support team.
The Applications Support Specialist monitors the JNET application environments for systems and data security compliance and provides recommendation to the Application Support Team.
This position is responsible for providing Tier 1B Help Desk services in support of the JNET Production environment. The Applications Support Specialist assists with testing, identifies errors, and troubleshoots problems in JNET systems in Development, Test & Production environments.
This position’s responsibilities will include:
• Supporting Net IQ (formally Novell) Security Management Suite (eDirectory, Access Manager and Identity Manager)
• Supporting Oracle Weblogic Application Server
• Supporting IBM Websphere MQ
• Webmethods Administration
• Knowledge of SUSE Linux
• General SQL server operational knowledge
• Application and system maintenance management
• Performance and capacity planning
• Provide weekly project status reports to the JNET IT Applications Manager
• Knowledge transfer to designated Commonwealth staff
• Other duties as assigned
• 24x7 On-call Support
Desired Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Computer Sciences or related business field, or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and three years of experience in a LAN environment, installing and configuring servers and related products and general knowledge of mainframe systems
• In-depth technical knowledge and proficiency in network monitoring tools
• Must have a working operational knowledge of a J2EE web environment
• Proven ability to interact at all levels of the organization
• Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff
• Demonstrates capacity for organization, prioritization, and management in a dynamically changing environment
• Ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills, strong conceptual and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
