Our client seeks a full-time Database Administrator Developer contractor for its Information Technology Group.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The individual will be responsible for support of the day to day administration of one or more database environments (Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008/2012). This will include monitoring of all systems, backups and scheduled jobs. In addition, the role will interact closely with systems administration staff to develop processes and tools that will simplify and/or automate routine tasks; and with development staff to optimize database calls.

 

 

Qualifications at Hire:

Experienced in configuring, deploying, maintaining, tuning and monitoring all database instances in development, testing and production environments

Experienced in working on database teams

Able to guide analysts to effectively mine the databases for reporting (experience with larger databases a plus)

Able to develop, maintain and monitor database backup/recovery systems

Able to administer, maintain develop and implement policies/procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database environment

Able to assist with the automation, configuration, deployment and performance testing of database servers

Should work closely with other developers on the design and implementation of databases, schema changes and queries

Proficient with ETL tools, extracting data from various sources (currently using DataStage looking to convert to SSIS)

Installation and configuration of database software, tools and patches

Write and maintain scripts to upgrade database for schema and stored procedure changes as required

Provide technical support to system administration and development staff

Assist with issues relating to system performance: Diagnostics of SQL problems, application support and SQL support

Must have a minimum 2 years Microsoft SQL Server Administration experience

Skillful at developing and reviewing SQL stored procedures, views, triggers, and functions

Proficient with MS SQL Server query and performance and monitoring tools

Working knowledge of SQL Server tools (Management Studio, SQL Server Profiler, etc.)

Ability to do Performance Tuning and Query Optimization. Understanding of Query Execution Plans

Preferred Qualifications a plus

Knowledge of ORACLE and COGNOS a plus

Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently

Demonstrated ability to deliver solutions in a timely manner

Perform technical troubleshooting and provide consultation to development teams

Enthusiastic, positive and entrepreneurial approach to complex technical challenges

Strong interpersonal and communications skills are a must

Must have solid oral and written presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and defend design decisions to a wide audience

Knowledge of or desire to learn health care systems, policies and health care related data.

 

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicant must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in electronic data processing, of which (B) at least two years must have been in work in which the major duties included computer systems analysis, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

 

Substitutions:

 

An Associate’s degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer programming may

be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. *

A Bachelor’s degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience. *

A Graduate degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience. *

A diploma for completion of a two year full-time, or equivalent part time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. *

An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.

Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
