Data Warehouse - Various ETL software design, development and enhancements, documentation and maintenance work; mentoring less senior team members and knowledge transfer very important.

Years of Experience: 

12 to 15 years of experience in the field or in a related area

Plans, develops, tests, and documents computer programs (specifically in data warehouse ETL: Extraction, Transform and Load), applying knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems.  Evaluates user request for new or modified application software to determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system, and computer capabilities. Consults with team members and users to identify current operating procedures and clarify objectives. Formulates plan outlining steps required to develop program, using methodologies such as structured analysis and design or object-oriented development.

Work involves assisting in analyzing systems outlines to develop programs for computer applications, writing solution programs, documenting the methods and procedures used in program development, and testing and correcting programs. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Designs technical data models and specifications for accomplishing user requirements in the business intelligence sphere.  Converts project specifications, using specialized software, into sequence of detailed instructions and logical steps applying knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages.  Performs unit testing to detect syntax or logic errors. Replaces, deletes, or modifies codes to correct errors. Analyzes, reviews and alters program to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Writes documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections.  Assists business analysts and users to solve problems. Recreates steps taken by user to locate source of problem and corrects programs to fix errors. May provide technical assistance to program users. Will monitor performance of program after implementation, and use knowledge of database tuning to improve substandard performance. Specializes in developing programs for data warehouse / business intelligence applications.

The contractor will work with the business analysts, BI architect, and developers on the data warehouse team and on the source systems team(s).  The tools and technologies used for this work are specialized, and the contractor will have the responsibility to mentor and lead other team members in the proper use of these tools and technologies, including developing, recommending, and communicating their best practices.
