GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

 

As the Manager of Database Systems you will have the opportunity to lead a team responsible for supporting an mixed environment of SQL Server and Oracle Databases.  Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure & Engineering, the DBA Manager will take overall ownership of the engineering and support of database platforms supporting mission critical operations for the business.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

 

  • Manage the Database Administration team personnel, including recruiting and hiring, performance reviews, compensation adjustments, and professional development
  • Plan and execute proactive measures to achieve stability and availability of the database environments according to companies requirements
  • Work with Project Management to define and estimate DBA contributions, and ensure team completes database project work according to the schedules and with an excellent quality
  • Lead the development and implementation of database infrastructure strategy and identify opportunities for using technology or processes to improve the operational readiness while balancing the need of containing costs for the key business databases supported
  • Apply knowledge and experience of industry best practices within database administration
  • Perform database capacity planning to ensure operational stability and availability of all databases

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in a large scale database environments (100+ databases), including administration, installation, and troubleshooting in a clustered environment
  • Minimum of five years of experience with either SQL Server 2005/2008, or Oracle 11g DBMS
  • Experience supporting large scale SAP installations on SQL Server considered a plus
  • Expert level knowledge of the internals of SQL 2005/2008 or Oracle 11g, in high-availability configurations
  • Minimum of 5 years previous work experience that includes leadership/management
  • Strong experience in  production database performance tuning working in coordination with the application teams
  • Experience in implementing pro-active measures for database performance efficiency & scalability in a growing environment
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to lead and motivate a staff in a growing, flexible environment, utilizing diversity in approach and methodologies
  • Coaching, mentoring, goal building and goal setting experience
  • In-depth experience managing teams responsible for complex systems
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working directly with business partners on operational issues and communicating effectively to senior management
