Complete Description:
The Network Engineer (NE) is responsible for the design, implementation and overall performance, security and availability of the entire LAN/WAN/MAN for enterprises designing network topology between sites such as data centers, field offices and DR sites. Extensive technical product experience in network security controls. Experience in developing enterprise networks and security design architecture in a multiple site environment. Provides consultation to business area management and staff at the highest technical level for all aspects of LAN/WAN design and configuration in multi-server environment. Demonstrated knowledge of systems, networks and applications, Microsoft networking concepts, back office products.
This contracted Network Engineer position proposed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be tasked with multiple, on-going day-to-day maintenance operations and NE project work under the direction of the Infrastructure Team Lead (ITS5).
Day-to-day maintenance operations include, but are not limited to the following: Network infrastructure log management / monitoring, Port-security monitoring, NTOP traffic / bandwidth monitoring, Network port activations / deactivations, Network closet cabling, Static IP maintenance, Firewall rule additions and deletions, Firewall hit-count monitoring, Reporting and troubleshooting WAN outages with ICN, Troubleshooting advanced network-related connectivity issues with customers escalated from the DNR HelpDesk, Manage network infrastructure inventory, and SCCM/EP troubleshooting and maintenance as needed. Activities to be performed at both the Wallace Bldg (main DNR location) and at distributed field sites across Iowa (Field Offices/District Offices/Hatcheries/Research Sites/etc).
Project work may include, but is not limited to the following: Create and maintain updated diagrams of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources networks with Microsoft Visio, Performing internal security audits of existing network infrastructure, Maintaining updated / consistent software versions on network equipment, Develop advanced scripting of network devices, Assist with implementation of new network equipment / expansions, Assist as needed with research and testing of new network technologies, Create detailed network implementation plans for proposed upgrades.
Neatness, great listening skills, and attention to detail in addition to 3 years of network administration experience are required. A valid Cisco CCNA is highly desirable for this position.
