Job Description:

A large and well known Client of ours is looking to bring on a Systems Administrator to work on-site in Waltham, MA for a 6-9 month contract assignment. This role is to work on a “Refresh” project.  This is a 300 to 600 Server, Data Center Consolidation. 

 

This role is all server work. 

Consolidation and validation. 

Systems Management Analyst

 

Skills Required: 

Unix, Linux, Windows and VMWare.

 

Desired Skills:

Scripting a plus, Security Patching, Cluster File Systems, NAS, DAS, SAN

 

Responsibilities:

Looking for a Systems Administrator with knowledge across VMWare, Windows and Unix and expert level experience in at least one.

This function coordinates the processes and activities that focus on restoring service after an incident occurs.

Monitors environment health and the facilitation of high severity incidents to improve the state of service availability and continuity.

This function also includes those who operate and monitor computer and peripheral equipment. Coordinates the efforts of all functions to complete scheduled jobs in a timely manner.

Documents all problems (hardware, application, facility, etc.) and takes corrective action as required. Interfaces with other departments as required.

 

Requirements:

Provide expertise in infrastructure and web tier operations and overall middle tier distributed systems.

May be involved in the administration and support of web tier and Middleware applications.

Analyze all aspects of the existing infrastructure and recommends modifications that will enhance system reliability, availability, serviceability and scalability.

Work with teammates, clients and other teams to identify and address systems problems.

Evaluate new developments and recommend infrastructure modifications.

May be involved in providing 24x7 on-call support of middleware applications as part of rotating team coverage.

Provide in depth consultation to application teams on a variety of different applications.

Assist in defining standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics.

Provide UNIX/Linux Administrationon multiple varieties of UNIX (AIX, LINUX), Windows and VMWare in a multi-vendor environment, while working closely with  Networking, Database, Storage and Application Development Teams.
Develop technical designs and policy/procedure documentation as assigned.
Install UNIX (AIX/LINUX) operating systems, apply patches, manage file systems and monitor performance and troubleshooting alerts from commercial, and locally developed monitoring tools.
Responsible for system failure analysis and recovery.

Participates in disaster recovery activities.
Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware, OS and some middleware applications software.
Ensures the consistency and integrity of file systems.
Implement controls and security to comply with security standards.
Investigate use of available software used to analyze problems and procedures to perform fine tuning to maximize production.
Analyze and recommend alternative solutions for system enhancements and problem resolution.
Interact directly with internal customers or external service provider to negotiate solutions and implementation specifics.
Provide 24/7 on call support on a rotating basis.
Manage/Monitor server performance.
Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity.
