Description

Plan, design, and implement data network systems and provide remote support for NCO’s global data network end users. 

 

Principal Responsibilities

Engineer and implement network infrastructure.

Plan, design, and implement complex data communication systems and make recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels.

Responsible for complex testing and analysis of all network facilities, including, but not limited to  Cisco routers, Catalyst switches, Private Internet Exchange (PIX) firewalls, Cisco Virtual Private Network (VPN) concentrators, Juniper routers, Juniper firewalls, and various other equipment to identify and isolate problems and verify network production is working properly.  Create and implement solutions for any identified problems and issues.

Interface with vendors and drive problem resolution during local or long distance carrier outages.

Monitor the performance and status of network resources.

Utilize software and hardware tools to identify, diagnoses, and correct problems and factors affecting network performance.

Work closely with program managers and Network Engineering Team to ensure timely delivery of client data communication needs.

Responsible for vendor evaluation, selection, and procurement for data communications equipment needed for externally facing projects and internal infrastructure.

Develop detailed project plans by managing data communications projects from proposals to implementation.

Develop and document procedures and processes for the ongoing operation, maintenance, and backup of the data communications equipment and systems.

Provide guidance and assistance to Network Engineering Team.

Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations relating to job duties.

Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with NCO policies and procedures.

Provide feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement.

Make recommendations to implement improved processes.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent in relevant work experience.

8+ years of network/systems administration/related work experience required.

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification a plus.

Extensive experience with Juniper hardware platforms including firewalls, routers, switches and remote access devices.

Proficient knowledge Cisco Internetworking Operating System (IOS), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol, Internet,

Protocol Security (IPSec), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Cisco Works, and Network General

Sniffer preferred.

Proficient knowledge of call center technology, carrier transport and Provisioning (Digital Signal 1 (T1), E1, Digital Signal 3 (DS3), E3, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Frame Relay, and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)).  Knowledge of Juniper routers and Juniper firewalls a plus.

General knowledge of Ping, Traceroute, nslookup, PBX Equipment, VoIP environments, Private Branch Exchange (PBX), and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) required.

Work Environment
