Short Description: The DNR is in need of a six month contract resource
Complete Description: Responsible for serving as a technical liaison for the Conservation and Recreation Division (CRD) for applications that are hosted externally by a vendor. Technical support will also include first level application support and database support. This position will work under the general direction of senior Information Technology Specialists and closely with vendor technical staff.

Technical Support of vendor hosted applications:
Primary applications supported include the Electronic Licensing System of Iowa (ELSI) and the Cabins & Campground Reservation System. Support activities include:
A. Design, implement, and maintain analytical and reporting processes under general supervision:
1. Install, configure, and maintain the IBM DB2 client and Web access application on all necessary staff PCs.
Install and configure ODBC data access tools to query various application databases.
2. Develop, implement, and maintain query tools to ensure highest possible data integrity and accuracy.
3. Analyze requests and extract large and complex data sets to produce information in an understandable format for many purposes including, but not limited to: customer sales and demographics, validation of system changes, customer compliance with regulations, including assistance with multistate Law Enforcement
undercover operations, sales of customer information to external customers, and many specialized requests by internal customers for ad hoc data.
B. Design, program, document, test, implement, debug, and maintain stand alone MS Access databases to extract application data for single purpose specialized uses, e.g. delinquent child support license revocations, vendor financial reporting, house magazine subscriber import and transfer.
C. Coordinate first level application security: Fulfill requests for new users specifying system viewing/editing privileges, user access changes, and removals. Access the security system to set and reset passwords.
Provide technical support for additional vendor applications as they are acquired by the CRD.
Business Applications Technical Support:
A. Databases:
1. Design, program, document, test, debug, and implement stand alone MS Access databases upon management
approval. Some development involves data extraction, importation, and manipulation from extraneous sources.
Train staff as appropriate. Examples include: Western States Violators Compact, hiring tracking, performance
evaluation monitoring, records sales invoicing.
2. Provide primary troubleshooting and maintenance support to 3rd party developed MS Access databases within
Central Office. Requirements typically involve code changes, data cleansing, additional query and report
development. Examples include: Liquidated Damages, Miscellaneous Licenses, Recreational Dealer Licensing,
Employee Roster, Operator Certification. Responsible for identifying opportunities were databases may be converted from an MS Access databases to SQL Server.
B. Word Processing and Spreadsheets:
1. Design, develop, test, debug, and implement automated templates and reporting tools in MS Word and Excel
throughout the department as requested and approved by management. Prepare documentation and train users as necessary. Examples include: TIP reporting, boater/hunter education certification, county recorder boat,
snowmobile, and ATV reporting, numerous form letters.
