• This was an MS Access application that was written by an amateur over a 15 year period on the fly which did not have any written requirements nor a normalized database structure.
• The objective was to convert the database aspect of the program to SQL Server without modification to the front end.
• The Microsoft analysis tool stated that the program would take 2.2 years to convert and I was able to convert it in a little less that a years time.
• A combination of Stored procedures, triggers, Instead of Trigggers, views, and functions were used to move the database into SQL Server. SSIS and custom T-SQL scripts was developed to move the data from MS Access into SQL server for updates to the data for parallel testing.
• Also some VBA code was written on the MS Access side to properly link the front end with the back end in SQL Server.
