PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Software Architect

Confidential, San Francisco, CA

Responsibilities:

  • I redesigned two systems at Confidential that were originally created 17 and 12 years ago. Both system were never designed to be used on a global scale and suffered severe usability and performance issues especially when the user base is now around the globe.
  • I created new architectures for both systems using a layered architecture approach and the latest cloud technology including Amazon’s AWS EC2, SMS, SQS, .Net C# 4.5 with a message based backend (SMS, SQS) for high-volume processing.
  • For the front-end, I used Delphi XE4 for native compiled user interfaces and for the best user experience.
  • The communication between the UI and the backend was done via a REST based communications layer using .Net Web API and JSON to transports lightweight data objects.
  • I used some techniques such as distributed memory caching (memcached) to increase performance and reduce network latency.
  • Both systems are using a cloud-based .Net backend. EIM is using Microsoft Word 2007 as the primary UI.
  • I created a MS Word 2007 plugin using Delphi XE4 to call the REST based web service from within MS Word. Since engineers needed to see the aircraft maintenance manuals during the creation process of the PDF documents, I chose MS Word as the primary UI which the users loved and are already comfortable using.
  • Because of my new designs, several older systems were no longer needed and can now be retired reducing obsolete license costs.

Technical: .Net 4.5, C# 4.5, Delphi XE4, Amazon AWS EC2, S3, SQS, SMS, CouchBase NoSQL, Memcached, Enterprise Architect, GUI, IIS, ASP.Net Web API 4, JSON, REST, SQL Server, db4o Object Database, MS Word 2007 etc.

Solution Architect

Confidential, San Jose, CA

Responsibilities:

  • I designed a new, graphical test system named Firmware Studio to automate all hardware tests on the medical cytometers.
  • Users for Firmware Studio are QA, Developers, Managers, etc. across the company so the user interface had to be very easy to use in order to create complex test scenarios.
  • I used a WPF Winform application as the graphical user interface (GUI) and Microsoft s Workflow Foundation (WF) as the core of the test logic. WF is the same workflow engine that is used by Microsoft s Enterprise class BizTalk Server product. I used WCF to communicate to the cytometer s firmware via SOAP based web service calls.
  • I exposed the workflow engine graphical designer in the UI so that the users can simply drag & drop cytometer commands and create complex test scenarios very easily. These workflows are then saved so that the tests can be repeated many times over. These workflows can also be shared between QA and developers for further analysis.
  • No scripting or programming is required by the user. The tool offers the user to create variables within different scopes of the workflow executions.
  • I designed Firmware Studio so that it will be able to communicate to other medical devices with completely different types of communications, device commands, etc., if need be.
  • I also worked on the design & development of the existing Flow Cytometer Software
  • FACSuite to run medical flow cytometers to enable drug discovery and medical research and diagnoses.
  • I created a layered persistence mechanism for FACSuite. I also helped in improving the Backup & Restore Tool.

Technical: WPF, MVVM, MVP, C# 3.5, C# 4.5, Visual Studio 2012, GUI, WF, Web Services, SOAP

  • The existing system was being worked on for over seven years. It had no decoupled layers in the architecture and suffered from performance and usability issues.
  • I also improved the development processes at the Law & Justice division of Confidential .
