Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Helped create an object oriented modular framework for performing configuration detection on complex systems using C# and Visual Studio 2005 Team System. Where the project was specifically a team oriented project created and maintained using Team Foundation Server.
  • Our small team specifically created a new Work Item Type for our own tracking purposes, being able to customize the fields required for our bug. A modular DLL approach was used during coding and design, with all base classes living in a common DLL and each specific set of actions living in their own respective DLL.
  • This allowed a cleaner approach to working on detailed implementation, allowing higher level parts of the system to be decoupled, allowing greater reuse and flexibility.
  • Created ASP.net pages which connected to two bug stores, unifying the view experience, providing a single way to view different and complex information.
  • Helped design and create various data collection utilities, allowing us to store a data repository of useful information regarding server information and health.
  • Our CMDB also allows integration with internal tools as separate data sources. We wanted to have a system which presented solutions in specific ways to the user, yet could be flexible in the way the backend handled the business processes allowing us to adapt to change.
  • During the creation of tools as a problem management aspect of our engineering work, I personally wrote a portion of the code using WMI, Registry Class (for remote registry), ADSI for some specific things like IIS information, Share Enumeration ( we did wind up using some unmanaged code for this, specifically calls to the NetApi Win32 API and some marshaling of memory for interop)
  • I also helped build documentation using Sandcastle, although at a very basic level, but still providing us with a professional HTML help file, that documented our specific API.
  • Built reports using SQL Reporting Services. The reports use complex SQL queries to gather data from separate tables, processing it and presenting it as logical fields. Worked with other teams, specifically networking, to resolve major issues that included half of a switch failing, causing packet loss.
  • Support IIS and SQL issues including deployment of instances and base level configuration.

We'd love your feedback!
