Confidential ( Santa Clara, CA)

Responsibilities:

  • I was moved into online development after completing 6 difficult batch programming projects and acquired CICS skills building many transaction sets.Designed standardized utilities to simplify CICS Transaction dialog development. Later a coworker enhanced the package and marketed the system as ‘QWIKCICS’.
  • Designed an asynchronous claims data entry transaction that drove external BDAM claim files thru CICS data entry input, edit and database update processes.
  • Developed an IO Utility Package. Company technicians altered Cobol batch programs to use Utility calls for serial read/write and database IO requests. Batch Cobol Read/Write verbs were replaced with Utility Get/Put requests and data source definitions (FD statements) were removed. The Utility Package eliminated most synchronous IO waits from jobs and shortened the major nightly batch job stream run time from 7 hours to less than 2 hours. The efficiency was critical for large carriers where the daily claims workload was ten times the small carrier claims workload.
  • Manage a CICS development staff of 4 for 3 years.
  • Several OSI employees had impressive backgrounds; working with them was excellent growth experience.
