  • Redesigned the architecture of a Windows Forms based Confidential t browser application to increase responsiveness. Operations on large hospital database were often in the 10 to 15 minute time frame. I developed a new database schema along with many internal program optimizations particularly with the GUI that resulted in all searches less than 10 seconds.
  • Developed a highly-efficient DICOM file parser in C# to extract Confidential t demographic information as needed to support search functionality.
  • Became the HL7 authority for the company. Architected a .Net framework that allowed exporting of existing diagnostic imaging reports into HL7/CDA documents.

  • Worked on a local team to integrate our local medical reporting module into a larger framework developed in Germany. Designed and implemented a data handling layer responsible for messaging between components and conversion to and from DICOM and local XML formats.
  • Designed and developed software for a medical review station which allows doctors to review image data acquired from various devices (e.g. Ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, PET/CT). Information is then entered into diagnostic worksheets from which reports of various types are created. The existing code base is primarily C#, with large amounts of legacy C++ code.
  • Architected a solution to enhance the existing product to support multiple reports of configurable type per study, including significantly redesigning the underlying data schema to bring more power and flexibility for future upgrades. This feature also required significant enhancements to our report designer with which the customer creates their specific reports, which are all stored in XML.
  • Supported and enhanced a stand-alone database API and accompanying data mining application, which allowed customers to perform their own custom queries against their existing Confidential t data. The API was developed as a set of stored procedures with the data mining application providing a user-interface developed in C# using ADO.Net to interact with the API layer.

Responsibilities:

  • Worked in the core architecture group for a performance monitoring load-testing tool called QALoad. The product allows creation of scripts of transactions targeted at specific middlewares, which can be configured to run across machines within your network, emulating thousands of users executing business transactions and collecting performance data to determine how systems and applications respond to various levels of user load.
  • Designed and implemented a replacement for the remote monitoring configuration and run-time dialogs consisting of dozens of screens with multiple wizards throughout to help improve the user experience. Implemented this as a Microsoft .Net component using C#, adding COM interoperability and placing on a Visual Basic 6.0 form, integrating with menus and toolbars.
  • Created a wizard manager project to facilitate easy creation and consistency for all developers for this project, allowing definition of wizard pages and controls using standard WinForms, exporting and importing of XML representations, as well as layout and navigation functionality.
  • Developed the Player/Group Manager, which allows the user to maintain a collection of player devices and assign them to groups. Integrated this with the main product to allow the user to discover players across the network and to assign scripts to players and/or groups. Revised the auto-configuration and pre-test verification routines to distribute load evenly across assigned groups and players based on performance characteristics of the machines they run on.
  • Facilitated the integration between the QALoad & Application Vantage products, consisting of an ActiveX control that allows the user to configure which machines Application Vantage should monitor during a specific test. When the test is run, this control makes use of a COM wrapper to make calls across the automation interface to instruct Application Vantage to perform tasks related to generating an XML report. The ActiveX control then retrieves and organizes these XML files.

  • Served as team leader for a project called The Products Demo Application (PDA). The PDA consisted of multiple applications designed around one common theme of a hardware store named Bolts ‘N Things. The purpose of these applications was to provide a consistent demo that could be used by various internal product groups for sales, testing, and documentation.
  • Developed many pieces of this application in a variety of technologies in order to have more examples for the various company products to test against, including Visual Studio 6.0, Visual Studio .Net, C++, C#, Visual Basic, ADO, COM, DCOM, Java applets, Java servlets, Web services, SQL Server, Oracle, MSDE, and PocketPC.
  • Created a very successful initial version with Visual Studio 6.0 as a client/server application primarily in Visual Basic, which used ADO to communicate with several different database types including SQL Server, Oracle, MSDE, and took advantage of stored procedures for scalability and transaction functionality. Designed and developed an n-tier solution to simulate selling of parts online, using ASP primarily, as well as Java servlets, ActiveX components and a DCOM object to retrieve report information via ADO.
  • Ported all existing pieces of the application to .Net, extending the product in some areas to take advantage of new features such as WinForms, Web services using SOAP/XML, managed and unmanaged code as well as cross-language compatibility, ADO.Net and the Windows Installer.

  • Worked on a large web-based project called Raid, which Microsoft uses internally to track bugs in their software development life cycle. The previous Raid system was client/server based and ran over dial-up phone lines costing Microsoft considerable expense and unreliability. Developed in several areas of a replacement n-tier, web-based solution accessed via a standard web browser.
  • Created the user-interface using ASP, HTML, JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets, all made as replacements to the dialogs found within the original client/server application; however they were modified for more of a web-based look using standard web-page controls.
  • Wrote some QA software using Visual Basic as a test harness to test the middle-tier COM components, which accessed SQL server databases. Created an overall test plan with specific test cases to be implemented for each interface.
  • Modified original Microsoft code for their Posting Acceptor 1.0, which was used to accept file uploads over the Internet, this was written as a DLL in C++.

Developed the BIC as a DOS-based embedded system using Borland C++, with our own real-time extensions, performing extensive communications, including TCP/IP, RS232, LON and DF1.
  • Coordinated a very large-scale replacement system to the BIC named the GEM. Gathered requirements thru customer feedback and interaction with marketing, from which a rough-design was sketched out and assigned to key developers in my group including myself. Presented our overall design to management and developers in the U.S. and at our parent company in Austria.
  • Designed and developed the section that managed the gas analyzer devices, collecting real-time data from a variety of hardware components, presenting information and interacting with users, and packaging the results and sending them to a host computer. Created an abstract wrapper to help hide the details of all of the different communication protocols the application supported.
  • Developed the GEM for Windows NT, using Microsoft technologies including ATL, COM, and some MFC. Designed this system as a client/server application, with most of the real-time communications and logic to handle the device states in Visual C++. Wrote the user interface in Visual Basic and designed it to be very configurable as most display objects were developed as ActiveX controls so the user could choose from these based on their needs.

  • Developed an iPhone application from scratch using Objective C/Cocoa Touch, that analyzes statistics of players and teams and calculates ratings for fantasy football drafting purposes. The application makes use of a web service in C# that returns the various lists sorted in multiple ways. The iPhone application calls the web service and displays the information using tab bar controllers, navigation controllers and custom views. The application was submitted to the iTunes store and was approved.
