PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential, NY
Senior Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Designed, and implemented a completely new VMware infrastructure comprised of two Dell servers, an EqualLogic SAN, and two Dell switches specifically designed for efficient, and redundant operation, with sufficient capacity for growth. This solution dramatically increased the performance, while vastly decreasing the amount of time necessary to create a new server. Also, since this solution has no single point of failure, it is highly available, and as a result, we’ve suffer no down time outside of scheduled maintenance. After rigorous testing, I consolidated all legacy servers onto these two servers as VMs. This solution dovetails nicely with any future Disaster Recovery solution, as the SAN can be used as an efficient replication source. The existing hardware will be used in a DR environment located off-site, as no DR/BC solution currently exists.
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire computer network (Windows/VMware servers, workstations, and networking equipment). My workload is largely comprised of projects designed to improve the overall reliability and functionality of Confidential ’s datacenter.
- Implemented Websense Webfilter company-wide utilizing various tailored configurations for each group to filter web, and other protocol traffic.
- Evaluated existing backup failures, and implemented a plan to correct them all. This maximized performance & reliability, eliminated all backup failures, simultaneously simplified the number of backup schemes to a single standard, while greatly improved our retention level. Backups now perform flawlessly, and complete in much less time then they previously did.
- Spearheaded overall effort to improve efficiency, and dramatically lower costs across the company. Reviewed current web hosting implementation, and migrated from two physical machines to one virtual server that will provide the same functionality, but costs one sixth the price. Replaced ineffective anti-virus solution with a suite that protects against viruses, spyware, and other forms of malware, and costs one third less. Within days, it discovered and removed numerous infections without any disruption to a single end-user. Converted renewal application from a multi-step manual process, to an automated one, thus saving approximately $1,500 per month, an ROI of one month.

Prior to the migration, implemented mailbox storage limit policies to reduce database sizes. This reduced backup and restore times, as well as the total time each mailbox required to migrate. Configured and maintained the Active Directory Connector (ADC) to facilitate the Exchange migration.
- Worked heavily with Active Directory (AD) to perform daily administrative duties.
- Implemented full redundancy for network services (Domain Controllers, DNS, and DHCP), as no such redundancy existed previously.

- Implemented Trend Micro Client/Server/Messaging Anti-Virus Suite, company wide, as the anti-virus solution for clients, servers, as well as Microsoft Exchange, utilizing Scanmail. Maintained this environment by providing updates, scheduled scanning and cleanup, and monitoring. The previous solution (Symantec Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition) was not stopping the proliferation of viruses throughout the organization, and it was imperative that it was replaced.
- Configured Cisco Pix Firewall to provide maximum security against intrusion. Numerous rules existed that compromised security for not only all servers, but the entire environment.
- Completely restructured and reorganized the company’s shared network drives, and public folders. Previously, users had rights to other users’ files and folders, allowing them to create, modify, and delete items.
- Corrected issue with UPS - Previous UPS wasn’t configured properly to allow the operation of any servers. Previously, if the power failed, all servers would have shut down immediately, rendering the purpose of having a UPS useless.
- Misc. changes are as follows. Installed and configured Software Update Services (SUS) as the company’s patch-management solution, which automatically installed any critical patches/fixes.
