Responsibilities:

  • For a life and health insurance firm performed detailed analysis of business needs in the areas of compliance, claims, premium administration, finance and product actuarial actuarial for a mainframe based system written in COBOL, ASSEMBLER and VSAM. This included participating in and leading JAD sessions, SCRUM meetings and writing technical designs containing business needs, testing requirements and conditions for closure. Created test and traceability matrices and performed unit and QA testing.
  • For a shipping, logistics and transportation company, supported a web based travel and expense reporting system (Concur). Gathered and documented business requirements, wrote project plans and interfaced with product support to resolve issues. Worked on a variety of projects including on-boarding foreign employees into the system, single sign on for mobile devices, and converted reports from Crystal Reports to Cognos Business Intelligence.

Senior Programmer Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • As part of a project team created a centralized database for all store information including address, operating hours, managers and store event calendar, tied into the public website. On-line interfaces were written in CICS/DB2 with a web browser client using HTML and Java script.
  • Re-engineered a check verification and recovery system from VSE, COBOL and VSAM to z/OS, COBOL II, DB2 with a web interface using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. After the conversion participated in a number of projects to enhance this system which resulted in a $2.6 million annual reduction in returned checks.
  • As technical liaison for an offshore team, co-coordinated development and testing of the conversion of a check cashing verification system from VSE/VSAM to MVS/DB2. On-line interfaces were converted to run on a web browser client using HTML and Java script. Responsible for effective communication between a distributed workforce including onshore and offshore analysts and developers. Helped write and distribute templates and checklists for functional and technical specifications, functional and technical designs, code review checklist and test plans.

Senior Programmer Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • Developed an automobile lease remarketing system used to identify and retain lease customers whose leases were due to expire in 18 months or less. System was written in OS COBOL 390, CICS, and VSAM with a C++ GUI front end for customer service reps. This system was developed as a turn key system to market to other leasing agencies.
  • Converted programs of an automotive dealer inventory system to use DB2 databases. System tracked vehicles that came back from leasing customers. System tracked vehicles through to their final disposition, i.e. retail sale, auction, or re-lease. System was written in OS COBOL 390, CICS, and DB2.

Independent Consultant/Senior Programmer Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • As the senior member of a team for a large regional financial institution set up new CICS application regions for a mutual fund accounting system. Client is the nation's largest full-service mutual fund transfer agent and the second largest full-service provider of mutual fund accounting services with $346 billion in assets and transfer agency services for 33 million shareholder accounts.
  • As project leader for a 5 member team supervised the testing of Y2K compliance of a tax and benefit system for a government agency. Duties included planning and prioritizing work activities, progress conferences, documentation, and status reporting. Used Data Ager product from Compuware for aging files. Coordinated testing efforts with operations, application support, and met with end users to review test results. Maintained the tactical project to do list. Developed and managed project workplans. Ensured quality, appropriateness and timeliness of all deliverables. System consisted of 281 jobs and over 500 programs written in COBOL II, CICS, and VSAM.
  • For a large financial institution functioned as a senior technical advisor and resource for a conversion from VSE to MVS and COBOL to COBOL II. Assisted in the conversion of JCL and programs. Provided training in TSO and SDSF and wrote training documents. As part of a standards committee helped draft standards for production and test JCL, and file naming conventions. Responsible for ensuring that over 1200 files were consistently renamed during the conversion of 300 plus jobs.
  • Supported small development projects in the payroll and general accounting systems for a large transportation company. Performed maintenance and enhancements for projects of 300 hours duration or less. Modified 401k system for union employees to report figures to Merrill Lynch for administrative purposes. Environment consisted of COBOL II, DB2, CICS, VSAM, and Easytrieve Plus.
  • For a major insurance firm led a project to expand six databases for a life and long-term disability system. System was written in COBOL and EasyTrieve using CICS and IMS DB and contained over 150 programs. Responsible for estimating tasks, coordinating testing, and keeping users and upper management updated on its progress.
  • Wrote, tested, and installed a new sales reporting system for a consumer goods company. System was written in COBOL II, DB2, and VSAM. Report figures were checked against production tables using QMF. Wrote JCL procs and run books. Also converted a capacity planning and sales forecasting program from RPG II to COBOL II.
