Senior System Designer/Developer

Performed design and development in a team building common components for Gov’t of confidential web service offerings. Our components included a Credit Card payment gateway, Canadian address lookup and a unified address change mechanism. Design was done using the Rational Unified Process with Rational Rose as a design tool. The applications were deployed to Weblogic Server 5.1/6.0/6.1 and Websphere 4.01 with an Oracle backend. The front-end portion was done with JSPs using Jakarta Struts as an MVC. Web Services were deployed using CapeConnect from CapeClear. I also performed load and functional testing of our systems with Mercury Interactive’s LoadRunner and WinRunner.

Designed and developed sections of the BondDirect online bond trading system. Features involved EJB design and development for bond trading business logic for use in JSPs in a browser frontend. Designed and developed a threaded data management subsystem using an In-Memory Database from TimesTen Software for use in a clustered WLS 5.1 environment. These features were highly concerned with performance to ensure accurate bond market representation.

Designed and developed features for the Managed Application Services Project using WLS 5.1 and WLCS. Involved Commerce and Personalization Servers, EJB design and development (session and entity beans), and JSP/Portlet development. This project involved providing an out-of-the-box Application Service Provider framework for companies to set up an ASP. I also provided mentorship to junior Nortel employees. Rational Rose was used for design and VisualAge for Java was used as an IDE.

Senior System Designer/Developer

Designed and developed the EVPA Profile Administration tool. I participated in the architecture, design and development of the Java Swing GUI. The GUI consists of a multiple tab screen interface that communicates through CORBA to WLE services. It allows administrators to graphically create, delete, update, and retrieve EVPA profiles. UML and Rational Rose were used for analysis and design.

Senior System Designer/Developer

Designed and prototyped an Internationalization (I18N) solution for the Indus Digital Maintenance project’s aggressive international objectives. This involved Java’s inherent I18N Resource Bundles for user language preferences and XML for display adaptors for multiple interface devices. I also designed and prototyped different methods for on-the-fly language translation of data for the devices.

  • Designed and implemented a J2EE training project for students to implement web chat client/server application using Enterprise Java Beans, and Confidential Weblogic Server. One other designer/developer participated in the project.
  • Curriculum required students to implement statefull session bean that would accept commands from the Java client and perform the appropriate function. The client used RMI to register with the Weblogic JNDI and each bean can then invoke a client method remotely whenever a message comes in from another client to display the message.
  • UML was used to document the analysis and design. JDK 1.2.2 and Weblogic Server 4.5 were used for implementation, test and deployment.

Software Developer

  • As a member of a small, fast paced software development team working on a scalable, high performance suite of UNIX C++ development tools, I wrote toolset features ranging from C++ parser and pre-processing technology to GUI features for all the tools. These tools were designed for development on large-scale telecom switch operating systems that contained over one million lines of code. The major projects I was involved in consisted of designing, implementing and testing a C++ pre-processor for use with our C++ fuzzy parser. As well, I was tasked with integrating our tool suite with various configuration management systems including ClearCase, Continuus and CVS/RCS providing version controlled source access to developers.
  • I was also tasked with developing a number of GUI features for the toolset, primarily in Tcl/Tk and iTcl (an Object Oriented Tcl). As the Configuration Management administrator for the team, I was responsible for our CM systems via the administration of the source databases, release management, and implementing our build management system. This toolset in currently in use across Nortel Networks development groups.

I worked in a medium sized development team that had recently grown to include the tools I worked on as an intern in Confidential (see below). This group had approximately 12 other tools dealing with development on DMS telecom switches within Northern Telecom, ranging from code editing to switch-side debugging. Mainly working in C++ and Tcl/Tk, I worked on a number of features including the addition of breakpoint and tracepoint capability to our switch debugging interface, GUI feature work, and porting the group’s software repository from a CVS/RCS system to Continuus, including implementation of a build system.

Software Developer

I joined a small development team designing and implementing software development tools for use on Protel and Protel-2 (proprietary development languages used at Confidential ). These tools were used in development on the confidential  switch operating system code, which was in excess of 20 million lines of code. The majority of my work was on a data engine written in C++ providing information to a call graph tool and a software architecture browsing tool. This project involved the design, implementation, testing, and support of the tools. I later moved on to feature work in the GUIs, leveraging my experience with the data engine. This involved programming in Motif and iLog Views (a graphics development library) as well as C++.
