  • Provided technical expertise during major process review and business requirements gathering for a major credit card company. Lead technical review and provided technical architectural requirements for proposed system solutions to be implemented in newScale RequestCenter service catalog in an SOA environment. Digital Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Architected and developed VSX audio processors using Analog Devices BlackFin DSP. Lead engineering team in design and development of audio DSP hardware as well as DSP code for BlackFin. Developed hardware drivers for the companion Cypress OTG USB chip, and participated in development of Java based PC/MAC GUI software.
  • Developed a multichannel digital effects processing subsystem for the FX family of audio mixers using a variation on the VSX BlackFin architecture. Lead engineering team in the design and development of hardware and audio effects code so that code sharing and reuse was maximized between this project and VSX, while implementing the specific audio effects code and USB functions not found on VSX (such as USB audio streaming and MP3 encode/decode functions).
  • Implemented an audio amplifier control network interface card with firmware based on uCLinux port to BlackFin. Implemented TCP/IP driver interface for uCLinux using SMSC MAC/Phy chip, as well as initialization and Power-On Self Test, and power sequencing control. Lead engineering team in development of DSP and embedded code as well as PC/MAC based GUI for new Crest NexSys control system.
  • Introduced industry standard USB as a digital connectivity technology for audio products. USB is now included in mixer products and guitar amplifier products allowing connection to PCs. This included development of USB drivers for BlackFin using C/C++ and assembly language.
  • Lead transition from processor specific assembly language programming to processor independent C++ programming, including the porting of critical algorithms from assembly to C++ using contract-engineering resources.
  • Moved the MediaMatrix NION (a massively scalable DSP audio processing system) from development to manufacture using outside engineering resources for design completion and production. Drove implementation of JTAG-based manufacturing testing and custom product configuration capabilities.
  • Drove development of a variety of I/O modules and associated equipment for use with NION in parallel with NION’s introduction into manufacturing. Developed firmware in C including Ethernet drivers and SNMP network management.

  • Lead in reducing dial-up modem product failure and returns rate from the highest in the company to one of the best in the company. Adopted increasingly integrated host resident v.90/v.91 modem technology to reduce the modem cost from $25.00 to less than $7.00 in all Gateway configurations.
  • Introduced the combined v.90/HPNA home networking capabilities to Confidential, resulting in standardization on the combined functionality in all Gateway home computer products. This effort was significantly supported by the development of a standard Internet sharing software package that offered greatly improved usability over other solutions.
  • Extended the standardized v.90/HPNA home networking capacity of Confidential to include Internet Appliance products for both Internet access and whole house music (mp3) distribution.

  • Built digital product development and support group for the development of digital audio products for the pro-audio market. The group included digital and analog engineers, software and firmware developers, laboratory technicians and product support and documentation specialists.
  • Architected, designed, and developed the Merlin line of digital audio processing products based on Motorola DSPs and microcontrollers. Utilized C and assembly language programming to implement real-time audio processing algorithms, interface to A/D and D/A converters and communicate with external control interfaces using RS-232 and RS-485 serial controllers.
  • Designed a TCP/IP Ethernet controlled amplifier system for pro-audio installations using C and assembly language real-time programming to control Ethernet and serial communications interfaces as well as amplifier control and sensor hardware. This unit utilized a Motorola 68HC11 microcontroller which interfaced to an SMSC Ethernet chip and Maxim RS-232/RS-485 driver chips. The system was available for both Altec-Lansing and Dynacord amplifiers.
  • Developed a line of digital audio processing products for the Klark-Teknik product group in London based on shared technology with products from the US division. This product line was targeted at the professional touring and recording industry.
  • Developed a high end digital mixing console at Midas based on the Analog Devices SHARC DSP processors, and utilizing very high speed digital networking technologies to provide system scalability.
