Responsibilities:
- Java Developer at Confidential compiles Java code on desktop and it takes 2 minutes.
- Some 2000 jar files. That same Java code compile by same developer, on his VDI (windows) C drive takes 4 minutes at server located at USA .
- The same Java code compiled, on A drive takes 8 minutes and H drive takes 12 minutes or more.
- Everything is local at USA. VDI, C drive, A drive, H drive.
- Developer wants to get VDI C drive compile time as close to Java Developer’s local desktop C drive compile time.
- As this Java developers compile this code many times a day.
- Collected network trace for each scenario and analysed the network trace to figure out first where most time is spend.
- Checked if network connection is clean (no retransmission, or no TCP connection resets).
- Windows is running on Red Hat Linux server.
- Collected Windows Perfmon data and did analysis of perfmon data.
- C drive had 20 MB or less data movement VS A drive had 80 MB or less data movement.
- H drive had 80+ MB data movement. Also tested with Virus scan software disabled to see if Virus can software was bottleneck or not.
- Was able to get C drive compile close to 3.5 minutes.
- There are two different software has to do a file scan when file is opened to check that file is not doing anything malicious on the network.
