Confidential, San Antonio, TX

Java Developer

Responsibilities:

  • Legacy application rewrite.
  • Previously “Showtime”, Confidential is a business facing management application for in-store food sampling kiosks.
  • Functionalities include scheduling by stores, regions, custom groupings, and several other internal features that the business uses to manage interactions between vendors and store partners.
  • Confidential is written in Java on the backend, leveraging Hibernate and Spring, hooked up to an Oracle DB.
  • The front is being written with Angular 2 and Bootstrap 4.
  • Our agile team of 3 was tasked with creating a product publisher and an order processing integration set for Confidential .
  • Primarily to showcase products on the Shopping and Express platforms. Both integrations were built leveraging Spring Batch. We communicate to Confidential via REST services and all requests are authorized and authenticated using a service account ID/.pem file on the server; and merchantID for the API Explorer.
  • There are (currently) a total of 4 scheduled jobs, not including the initial load job nor order integration jobs.
  • Each job reads from an internal API and writes to directly to Confidential ’s API’s.
  • The Shopping platform simply redirects to real PDP’s, but the business wants to be able to run campaigns and leverage the tools Confidential offers in order to increase volume in the DC.
  • The stipulation for Express is that HEB will be fulfilling the orders since Express does not exist in San Antonio.
  • This project is important to me because it is my first as a technical lead.
  • The site includes a custom Content Management System which is built using the same stack except it utilizes Angular Material on the front end. Integrations channel legacy system data to application database. Internal integrations on this project all follow the publish/subscribe model and were built using the TIBCO software family. These integrations communicate via EMS. Exterior integrations may be accessed via SOAP or REST services and include parties such as USPS, Vertex, etc. Some other requirements for this project include:
  • Design user interfaces to be responsive
  • Participate in developer poker planning
  • Groom backlog with Product Owner
  • Unit test and debug code in development using jUnit, Mockito, Chai js, Mocha, Gulp
  • Ensure code is peer reviewed and issues have been addressed.
  • Ensure Findbugs issues have been resolved.
  • Ensure code meets OWASP top 10 standards and PCI-compliant (where applicable)
  • Maintain successful continuous deployments using Jenkins
  • Learn TIBCO enterprise software family and educate agile team on how to build middleware integrations, department processes, best standards and practices.
  • Assist teammates with their tasks when approached for help. Act as a support system and a goto resource for them.
