  • Based on teh recommendation of teh CIO at teh VA, NIH/NHLBI requested Bluedog’s assistance in integrating legacy authorization/access systems for use across teh 11 independently managed institutes, utilizing a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Bluedog was also charged wif designing and implementing a portal-based Operational Data Store (ODS), wif an Oracle RDBMS backend and WebObjects/Java web services layer, to provide an expert locator/projects management solution.
  • Bluedog architected, coded, implemented and managed teh enterprise solution, and provided SOA expertise to other institutes to enable them to make use of teh web services and attendant data sources and management systems.
  • Teh outcome of teh related efforts was teh ability for all eleven institutes to locate experts inside and outside NIH, uncover legacy information about federally-funded research projects, enable authorization for use of portal tools for users wif no human intervention, track and manage resources and financial data (budgeted vs expended funds, schedule variance, earned value), and other analytics.
  • Teh Operational Data Store (ODS) and accompanying portal provide a single web point of entry unifying information about teh staff and contractors at NHLBI.
  • Teh solution is based on a service-oriented architecture, and makes use of existing web services and legacy data sources available via JDBC. Prior to Bluedog, teh environment sported a complex network of non-integrated databases that impacted staff ability to rapidly respond to changing information management needs.
