Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Responsibilities:

  • Roadmapped Bank Slice (Rest API Infrastructure-Dev, QA, PROD environment for Retail and Direct Bank applications) stabilization and migration to AWS, from strategic planning to on-time, on-budget rollout in 1 year. Outcome: KPIs turned green from red, increased Resiliency, improved Customer Experience, savings due to less down time in production systems.
  • Envisioned and operationalized Designed Review Board(DRB) and governance processes from grounds-up. DRB has successfully governed 100 plus API designs across the RDB in past 18 months which resulted in high quality API development.
  • Strategically planned API training boot camps across RDB, resulting in rapid learning of API and development.
  • Steered and built High Performance teams. Three of my five teams won coveted Tech Excellence Award.
  • Introduced key IT Processes and Tools across the enterprise including Design Review Board, DRB Approval and Deployment Automation, API boot-camps, weekly performance regression testing, GitHub, Jenkins & CI roll-out. Outcome: API delivery time cut down from more than 3 months to 1-2 sprints (<4 weeks) resulting in rapid application development and Continuous Delivery.
  • First in delivering several key APIs to production in RDB including account transactions, disputes, debit card. servicing and Teller Transactions. APIs were easily leveraged across multiple channels (Branches, web and mobile both for Consumers and Sales & Service) and achieved cost savings via re-use.
  • Inducted Hystrix across Retail and Direct Bank APIs. This isolated backend failure and dramatically boosted Bank Slice resiliency by preventing any single backend from bringing entire production environment down.
  • Led delivery of Batch Processing Framework, built on open source technologies(SpringXD) and hosted in AWS. Batch Processing Framework replaces expensive third party batch pressing system.
  • Proactively planned and led capacity addition in Bank Slice QA & PROD, Outcome: successfully supported rapid increase in mobile traffic with new iPhone app and increase in number of APIs (25 to 100+).
  • Envisioned and led delivery of customer migration using Batch Framework, Outcome: Saved several team months of work, fostered application reuse with easy support for upcoming iterative customer migration cycles.

Technology Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Led and created overall architecture for GQ Photo Contest (HGQRU), a key GQ initiative. Interfaced with Consumer Marketing, AdOps, DevOps, Product, Design and delivery teams. Developed services for galleries, uploading, cropping, tagging, rating, voting & governing. Architecture was late easily adapted to support cartoon contests. Contests turned out to be very popular and increased GQ traffic and AD revenue.
  • Architected and developed Restful services for CondeNast core enterprize services from the grounds-up including user-login/registration, sweepstakes, Newsletter, Quiz-polls, Ecom Subscription (Hearst, ATG), CDS Subscriptions API and External User Registration (Facebook Connect) that are used across all 20+ Condé Nast sites. This resulted in dramatic cost savings in site maintenance (no library upgrades) and increased user base though External User Registration.
  • Architected and developed ATG-sync solution to synchronize CondeNast users with ATG. Queued user creates and updates through triggers into Oracle MQ that were de-queued by stand alone consumer app which in turn invoked ATG web services to sync users. This robust, highly reliable and real-time solution helped avoid daily error prone manual syncing across two companies, providing tremendous cost savings and improved user experience.
  • Added support for Unified Registration across all sites. Generated UUID & password hashes for existing users via db functions which eliminated several additional iterative deployments per site for 20+ sites. Unified Registration resulted in superior user experience by SSO across all CondeNast sites.
  • Re-Architected and added failover support in Textmessaging API for recovering failed subscriptions during peak loads or provider shutdowns. This effort resulted in mobile subscriptions jumping from 70,000 to 180,000 over a period of six months and avoided lost subscriptions.

Plans module can be run by single click, resulting in quick plan execution time and improved user experience.
