Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Created re - usable inteface that allowed our team to treat sharepoint as a data store.
  • With this in place we created other web apps in HTML 5 and JavaScript on top.
  • Written in C# and backed by MS SQL Server 2008 R2.
  • Java Messaging System (JMS)
  • Recently implemented a JMS system utilizing Apache Maven, Apache Camel, and Apache Active MQ.
  • The purpose of this system is to allow a number of my company’s applications to communicate with one another w/o having to re-program each application’s interoperability interfaces.
  • The system provides route mediation, and routing logic to serve requests on behalf of a requestor and call any number of endpoints to build an aggregated result set, and return to the requestor.
  • Furthermore, because we leveraged Apache Camel, we support multiple language bindings like Java, PHP, etc. If that is not enough, we can stand up dynamically created Restful Web Services within Camel to allow requestors to place a request on the Queue in a HTTP Post Request. This is useful since every popular programming language provides a native HTTP library with which to communicate with.
  • Continuous Integration (CI) Design and Implementation
  • I, along with my team, built a fully automated testing system. My personal focus was in process flow (the entire testing process), dependency management (Apache Ivy, IvySvn, Apache Ant), and automated unit and functional testing (junit, jstestdriver, and selenium)
  • Digital Document Production Tool Prototype
  • The requirement was to provide a web based application to allow the end user to author documents completely on the web much like Google Docs.
  • My tech lead and I set a one month sprint cycle and built a functional prototype which does allow the user to author a document in a free text manner with a completely automated template system matching the user's requirements of strict templates that are well defined by the customer.
  • The application also takes the pretty print form (HTML) and builds a second form in machine readable XML in order to make the document's data and meta-data available to wider community through a standardized data format.
  • “Widget-ized” many of the customers previously host based applications; similar to Google Gadgets.
  • This effort consisted of many different applications brought into the web for ease of access, with as little re-programming as necessary.
  • We have also utilized the ExtJS JavaScript framework and libraries for our Ajax operations and unified look and feel qualities of all of the widgetized applications.
  • Heavily integrated with Jackbe for universal, cloud based data access as opposed to the old architecture which previously needed an expensive Oracle Architecture.
  • In response to the Haiti crisis, my company combined my local team with a large group of developers in DC to build a real time 3D user defined operational picture for the above mentioned government entity, we built a series of Web 2.0 tools wrapped around the Google Earth browser plugin that can be learned about at these two links:
  • Developed a Java Data Ingestion application that operate against an Oracle architecture.
  • In support of this effort my fellow software engineer and I built a number of components
  • We updated this software to version 1.3 which includes embedding geographic coordinate information into the data, and we modified the web service to utilize mutual authentication and serve up the geographic coordinates.
