Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Designed and implemented FICO Insurance Fraud Manager (IFM) that leverages advanced analytics to identify aberrant behavior patterns. Primary focus on application performance improvements (queuing, caching, threading, and synchronization techniques). Significantly (10x factor) increased the application throughput. The improvements allow periodical runs of back-end processes without interfering with core operations.
  • Developed ability to simultaneously run multiple synchronized processes on very large claim populations. Implemented event-driven architecture and multi-threaded software design patterns using Java concurrency.
  • Used high-performance Oracle features (collections, metadata, parallel-execute) for preprocessing and data manipulations.
  • Optimized database traffic by balancing number and size of database transactions during retrieval and storing of data. For configurations with significant fluctuation in number of claims per patient and/or provider, a thread load balancing is implemented with claims dynamically distributed to eliminate idling and increase the effectiveness of multi-threading.
  • Improved performance of processes requiring several levels of cross-grouping (provider, patient, procedure, date-range, drug, etc.) in high-performing, reliable, and resumable way by replacing traditional SQL aggregations with a simulation of MapReduce model and “stop-points” concept using Oracle collections.
  • Implemented tools to collect and store bench-marking data and detect deterioration of performance of various application processes.
  • Developed the Database Migration Validation Tool that detects inconsistencies in definitions of objects of same nature, and object dependencies. The tool compares schemas against a “master” snapshot and is especially useful when schema in question is not easily accessible.

Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Developed solutions for paperless processing of electronic remittance advices (ERAs) using Web-based, HIPAA compliant ANSI X 12 (835, 820) process. The system moves health care payments from insurance companies to hospitals, pharmacies, and other health care providers, essentially matching the payments with invoices. Development is based on J2EE, Java Servlets, JavaServerPages, PL/SQL, and JasperServer in Maven, Ant, and Eclipse environment.
  • Identified application’s bottlenecks and implemented innovative techniques (server temporary tables, pipelines, and dynamic cursors) to optimize the use of Oracle resources in processing very large data. This resulted in a ten-fold reduction of the response time (from minutes to seconds) and improved scalability.
  • Introduced Ajax-based techniques to improve the application response and usability for large amounts of hierarchical data. Implemented selectable tables, trees, multiple rows selection, drag-and-drop, “auto filtering”, and other enhancements to the UI.
  • Pioneered in design and development of “pre-defined” template- and data-driven reports based on Open Source Jasper Server technology (Claim Volume report, Denied and Paid Claims reports etc.) Achieved high level of customization without compromising the performance. Created back-end processes to transform raw data and facilitate the generation of reports for very large datasets.
  • Integrated new functionality into existing application sections. Developed code based on iText API that allows dynamic creation of .pdf files and automated filling, updating and viewing of .pdf forms.

Software Engineer IV

Responsibilities:

  • Developed an online healthcare management tools that allow payers, providers, employers, members, and brokers to conduct eligibility, referral, and claims transactions in a real-time, HIPAA 834 compliant interface. Supported databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQLServer. Presentation tier: Java Server Pages and JavaScript.
  • Designed and implemented invoice manager, single sign on, benefit comparison module, benefit update manager (implemented large volume document upload to support the renewal of hundreds of files) et al.
  • Mentored peers in mastering Oracle stored procedures and tuning.
  • Implemented tools for extraction, cleansing, transformation and migration of data from legacy systems and third-party data suppliers of drug (FDB), formulary (InfoScan, MedImpact), and pharmacy (NCPDP) information.
  • Developed Oracle stored procedures to implement administrative and clinical considerations: formulary check, step therapy, allergy, and drug interaction.

Project Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Designed and developed MedManager, a reporting system aimed to facilitate both short- and long-term decision-making processes in healthcare management organizations. The system provided pre-defined reports and ad-hoc queries for intersections of patients, physicians, and drugs.
  • Development was based on PowerBuilder and Oracle PL/SQL. The system was later migrated to OLAP BusinessObjects.
