IT PROJECTS

Database Design/Querying
Microsoft Access

  • Implemented raw data into Microsoft Access databases by creating tables and indicating primary keys, unique identifiers and null values.
  • Constructed extensive queries using Query by Example (QBE) in Microsoft Access for single queries, joins, and multi-table queries.
  • Constructed extensive queries using SQL (ANSI/ISO standard) in Microsoft Access for single queries, joins, and nested sub-queries.

CA ERwin

  • Created several logical ER models using ERwin from detailed conceptual data models. Also generated automated SQL code from physical ER models using ERwin.

Oracle

  • Implemented a detailed design of a given relational schema on the Oracle platform using SQL DDL statements.

Microsoft Visio

  • Conducted conceptual data modeling techniques for databases, drawing multiple entity-relationship diagrams using Microsoft Visio. In each case, the specification of key and non-key attributes was classified, as well as entity and relationship types. Also min-max cardinalities were put in place to properly set up each database.

Computer Programming
Java

  • Created a program that involved prompting a user for information regarding the mass, gravitational binding, and radius of a planet. The program then calculated the energy (in joules) that was needed to blow up that planet. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: escape character for strings, mathematical operations and order of operations, formatting currency, and also the basics when it comes to input and output.
  • Created a program that involved developing an automated menu system for a local restaurant. The menu system would prompt users for input from the menu, and then based on the input that was given the system would ask the user specific questions based on their selections from the menu. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: running and grand totals, validating user input, if-else statements, loops, nested loops, as well as checking equality of string type data.
  • Created a program that involved developing a simplified version of “Conway’s Game of Life”. The system would begin by randomly generating a line of output (people) split into two different categories. As the user played the game, the system would continue to randomly generate output based upon probabilities that had been hard coded into the system and also the output from the previous turn. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: static methods, arrays, passing arrays as parameters, random number generation, and dealing with array out of bound issues.
  • Created a program that involved reading in records from a .txt file and then randomly assigning the records for specified user input.
  • Created a program that involved developing a “Dice Poker Game”. This project enabled me to experience software development in a group setting as well as to become familiar with the concepts of: integrating variables, functions, arrays, classes, random numbers, loops, and if-else statements all together.
  • Created a program that involved developing a simplified version of “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out” computer game. The game was implemented on to a GUI interface. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: event driven programming, manipulating basic GUI objects (buttons, windows, images, menus), building onto pre-existing code, and inheritance.
  • Created a program off of a GUI interface that involved writing Java code that connected to a Microsoft Access database. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: developing new software that exists with an existing program, connecting to a database through Java by submitting SQL queries, and basic networking principles.
  • Created a program that involved developing an applet calculator. Each of the mathematical functions on the calculator was implemented by using recursive definitions. The applet also was set up to error check user input. This project helped me become familiar with the concepts of: GUI and event driven programming, differences between applications and applets, and publishing applets.

SQL

  • Constructed extensive single queries, joins, and nested sub-queries in Microsoft Access.
  • Constructed SQL statements in order to implement a detailed design of a given relational schema.

C#

  • Created websites using Microsoft Visual Studio, implementing the C# programming language to create and design tables, as well as creating links for website navigation.

Joomla

  • Monitored the website for Harvest Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH for almost two years. I was responsible for maintenance and upkeep, adding articles/audio and creating new pages were some of the responsibilities I was in charge of.
