As the financial arm of General Motors, GMAC was started in 1919 and was later changed to Ally financial in 2008 when it decided to become a Bank Holding Company. With the new role Ally instigated a whole host of new functions and banking practices which did not exist in the original organization. Thanks to its automotive history, Ally currently ranks among the largest automotive services company worldwide with more than 15 million consumers and dealers. I was fortunate enough to work on a whole host of projects at Ally relating to the Federal Regulatory Compliance, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) space.

Chronological Summary of Projects:-

  • AML US Mortgage – Consumer, Commercial, Wholesale, Warehouse -

The US Mortgage project encompassed the entire space of Mortgage including various Mortgage LoBs including Commercial, Wholesale, Warehouse and Consumer Mortgage Lending and implemented Customer Risk Scoring, Transaction Monitoring and Case Management Tools for Ally’s North American Operations portfolio. The project brought Ally Financial’s Mortgage LoBs in compliance with various regulatory agencies and federal regulations stemming from Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Patriot Act. Non-compliance would have resulted in fines from the federal government and potentially open Ally to litigation and damage to business reputation.

  • AML European Retail –

The project implemented OFAC and other watch list screening for the Retail portfolio of customers for Ally in Europe. The project scope covered 10 countries in Europe including; United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, France, Italy and Switzerland.
