IT Senior Manager, National IT Services
Mr. Hunter is accountable for all IT-related systems management and administration for Datagate, Inc – a privately held technology services company operating for over 30 years. Datagate is the largest third-party HP hardware maintenance services provider and has also been recognized as the Sun Microsystems Supplier Meritorious Award winner for support services for two consecutive years (2001 and 2002).
Mr. Hunter’s responsibilities include managing company IT systems and operations, evaluating technology service provider qualifications and managing partner relationships, managing government and customer contract administration, and overseeing all related projects.
Representative Accomplishments:
- Developed an Internet-based CRM application, which allows Customer Engineers to update, manage and track client service activity. Using browser technology and JavaScript programming, this application provides real-time information as well as paper-less automation of existing business processes. This system was successfully rolled out to over 100 Customer Engineers in the organization.
- Led the implementation of a major Technology Infrastructure Enhancement Program for the enterprise. The individual sub-projects included 1) Upgrading the telecommunications bandwidth, 2) Upgrading to the latest versions of Sun Solaris, HP-UX and MPE/iX, 3) Incorporating Unix-based services, such as DNS and SAMBA, and 4) Upgrading the PBX system, including features such as call management and Automated Number Identification (ANI). Typical elements of each sub-project included developing project plans and budgets, evaluating and selecting vendors, and managing the implementation, testing and production rollout.
- Conceived, designed and developed an enterprise Document Management and Distribution system, replacing the prior manual document delivery procedures. Key attributes included improved real-time document request, delivery and tracking enabled via the Internet. This resulted in timesavings, increased management supervision and increased support for corporate ISO 9001 compliance.
- Led the outsourcing execution of the enterprise Customer Software Support function. Key activities included identifying, evaluating and selecting an outsourcing vendor, conducting contract negotiations and coordinating with all business units affected.
- Led the enterprise Y2K evaluation and maintenance effort for Datagate, as well as several key corporate customers. Key activities included system certification and development of custom routines to address non-compliant legacy systems. Having sole responsibility for numerous commercial and custom applications, Mr. Hunter achieved 100% Y2K success.
- IT services lead on a sales pursuit team for a national pharmaceutical research and testing firm. Activities included providing the value proposition for Datagate’s IT services as part of a national HP1000 maintenance contract. The result of the successful sales activity was a Hardware maintenance/IT services contract that has been on going for approximately 7 years and has generated over $10 million for the company.
- Negotiated and managed secure B2B partner interface project with Sun, IBM, Decision One, General Dynamics and Datagate.
- Managed custom interface projects with partners like Silicon Graphics and customers like Kaiser Permanente.
- Managed the movement of the call center with no impact to the customer.

Manager, Confidential (June 1992 to January 1997) –
Responsibilities included project management and tracking, establishing IT milestones and objectives, full life-cycle management of enterprise systems and overall IT problem solving.
Representative Accomplishments:
- Served as the National Software Coordinator on a $1.5 million client engagement for the world’s largest retailer. The goal of the project was to upgrade all of the nationwide distribution centers while maintaining minimal disruption. The project was successfully completed within four months.
- Mr. Hunter was utilized by the U.S. Navy to resolve the failure of a mission-critical system that was leaving Navy fighter planes grounded. After unsuccessfully petitioning HP for the necessary resources, Mr. Hunter was identified at Datagate as the sole individual with the requisite HP skills. Conducting intense system evaluation under pressure from as high up in the U.S. military as the Pentagon, Mr. Hunter identified the system problems in 2 days and fixed the problems 2 days after. The resulting success prompted the U.S. Navy to thoroughly recognize Datagate, and Mr. Hunter specifically, who was personally requested for follow-up engagements.
Senior Software Engineer/Confidential (April 1991 to June 1992) –
Became acting MIS Manager in July 1991. Responsibilities included systems operations, capacity planning, systems security, and disaster recovery.
Representative Accomplishments:
- Developed an intelligent operating environment for the HP 3000. This system improved the management of processes, configurations, communications and security.
- Developed a customer system diagnostic for HP 3000 classic and Spectrum machines, which determines error trends and automatically transmits data to a designated receiving station. As the Program Manager, Mr. Hunter managed four programmers and ten engineers over the course of the initiative.
Senior Programmer/Analyst (February 1990 to April 1991) –
Responsible for maintenance and enhancements of in-house applications, including: Service Dispatch, Contract Admin, Depot Repair Management, Order Entry, Purchasing and Inventory Management

- Developed several system libraries in SPL/3000 and HP 3000 assembly, including a library that supports ANSI C style I/O.
