Last Position Held: Senior IT Architect
Business Analyst and Lead Architect
Was assigned to the project when the vendor delivered a sub-standard product, and the Technical Lead refused to work with the Project Manager. Work involved redesigning the database structure and queries to give adequate performance, and educating the vendor as to accepted industry standards. Worked with in-house DBAs to provide vendor with evidence of problems, and to implement a replication scheme. Oracle, Java, PL/SQL
TOA Transmission Outage Application
Business Analyst and Lead Architect
Work involved designing and adding functions to the vendor's baseline product to support business practices. Designed and implemented an interface to TOR's Network Model, in order to leverage the improvements made in equipment data. Without access to source code, used TOAD to identify transactional instability. Due to financial constraints, TOA was put into service with numerous deficiencies. A large amount of time and effort was expended attempting to correct these, which had an adverse effect on operational reliability. Added views to identify database corruption, and scripts to correct where possible. Oracle, Java, PL/SQL
TOR Transmission Outage Reporting
Improved the Network Model by developing scripts for identifying and correcting missing and invalid data. Designed and ran ETL PL/SQL scripts to pull Line Segment data scattered in downstream applications back into TOR, which improved maintainability and reliability. Oracle, VB6, PL/SQL
REQ/SOS Request/Switch Order System
Acted as Business Analyst and Lead Architect. REQ/SOS was written in-house, and required greater integration with other applications and the EMS Network Model. REQ/SOS managed planned and unplanned outages on the EHV Transmission System. Provided 24x7 support to 7 Transmission Dispatch Centers and 9 Distribution Dispatch Centers. Designed and implemented Opportunity Outage scheduling functions which saved manpower and improved turn-around time. Acted as Database Administrator to upgrade SQL Server and implement Disaster Recovery processing via log shipping to a backup server. Merged CSW's Central and Southwest Power data model into AEP's Network Model. Modified web-based front end to incorporate CSW business practices into one software product. CSW integration doubled the size of the Network Model, and the number of switch orders and operations personnel. SQLServer, IIS, ASPX, Tran-SQL
PJM Pennsylvania/Jersey Maryland Interconnect
Acted as AEP's representative in transferring AEP's IS and RTO Regional Transmission Operator responsibilities to PJM. Designed, implemented and supported an EDI interface to PJM's eDart outage scheduling system. Oracle, Java, Forms
NERC Electronic Tagging
Acted as AEP's representative in NERC North American Electric Reliability Council conferences to define an inter-utility standard for EDI of transmission transaction requests. Designed and implemented an interface between E-Tagging and ISplus, allowing compliance with regulatory requirements without the need for operator manual entry. Oracle, PL/SQL, Pro C
OASIS Open Access Same Time Information System
Worked with OATI to design and implement an EDI interface between ISplus and OASIS, a new transmission reservation system mandated by FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Oracle, Pro C
ISplus
Acted as Business Analyst and Lead IT Architect, working with vendor ABB to design and implement an Oracle-based Interchange Scheduling system to satisfy Generation/Transmission separation as mandated by FERC Order 888/889. ISplus was one of the first successful Oracle applications to be deployed in a real-time Control Center environment. Renegotiated contractual terms and responsibilities, resulting in savings of over 40K per year. Worked with a different vendor to implement web interface took over implementation when vendor's consultants left in middle of project. Implemented numerous upgrades and modifications based on technical, business and regulatory requirements. Oracle, PL/SQL, Forms/Reports, Pro C
EMS Interchange Scheduling
Worked as Lead Business Analyst and IT Architect with engineering and financial business units to implement new market-based functions, due to the changing business environment. FORTRAN
WEA Weather Data
Designed and implemented a system to download and parse National Weather Service data, replacing several similar systems. The result was data standardization, enhanced reliability and reduced costs.
Hydro Applications
Designed and implemented Hydro Gate Control, Hydro Data Logger and Hydro Autocycle applications. These allow remote management of Hydro generation units, resulting in reduced manpower costs and better control.
CPS Calculated Points Subsystem
Designed and implemented a system to allow calculations to be defined and performed on telemetered data in real-time, resulting in an enhanced view of system conditions without incurring additional hardware costs.
EMS Energy Management System support and modifications
Enhanced existing ABB software to reflect changing business and technical requirements. Began 24x7 operational support.
