This project was large and complex. The client was using Gentran on a mainframe legacy back end system that contained packed decimals but needed to physically be able to read that data. Note: when packed decimals exist, files must be shared and translated in binary format. Therefore we designed a secondary map output format that converted the binary file into an ASCII human readable format where we expanded the packed decimals to be displayed them as signed integers padded with leading zeros

Spearheaded this proof of concept project with a goal of merging all phone bill data into a single report that was able to be analyzed and broken down into multiple sub categories. The complexity of an EDI 811 is extreme. The logic needed to break down all levels of taxes associated with each TYPE of phone bill received. On a phone bill, I discovered there were 11 levels of possible taxation. The final spec was 493 pages long. The bottom line was by resolving the client's problem we picked up great additional business from Goldman.
