CIO & Vice-President of Product Strategy & Development

Responsibilities:

  • Initially hired as a technology consultant to provide a strategic technology plan that would allow the company to pursue an A Series of funding,
  • In one month, hired as the CIO, to take on the IT Operations Department and build out a scalable, reliable systems infrastructure for collecting 80 million records per day.
  • Four months later, I was asked to take over responsibility for the ShoppingScout.com “app” and Brand as the VP of Product Strategy. The company had created a “Shoppers App” web site, which would allow consumers to build shopping lists and get pricing at national retailers in their area. My team and I distilled the functions and business objectives into components and redesigned the Home Page along with the entire site. Within two months we had increased Registered Users by 400% (15% monthly), increased Active Users by 800% (19.2% monthly) and reduced CAC as well as marketing spend by 22% monthly from $35 per user to $6.50.
  • I implemented a technology plan to immediately create redundancy of all consumer-facing systems, without additional cost impact to the budget. Additionally, I implemented a plan to leverage the existing budget to replace our aging systems and storage technologies with a reduced foot print in our data center, significantly reduced power consumption and 4x the scalable technology with better management.
  • With ownership of the ShoppingScout Brand and virtual no recognition, I created a “community” site that was hosted to promote the brand with stories and content related to our Value Proposition. Additionally, I hired someone to re-launch and manage our non-existent Social Media presence and manage our brand communications strategy. Together we re-launch our Twitter and Facebook presence, added Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and a WordPress blogging site, which has grown 28 to 40% month over month.
  • Upon the departure of our CTO, I was asked to take over Web development, giving me end-to-end control of the product and all of ShoppingScout.com’s business units as the CIO, CTO & VP of Product Strategy.

  • Hired after Series A funding with only 12 full time IT staff and one location. Developed a technology plan with all of the stakeholders that ensures the lowest cost of IT while delivering highly available, efficient technology solutions.
  • Created a Project Office and managed the implementation of major business systems including SAP R6 ERP with just-in-time delivery of raw materials, Oracle 11g with Oracle Fusion Financials and HCM (Human Capital Management), HP Service Manager Enterprise all running on HP Non-stop 11i DC-OE (Data Center Operating Environment) Virtualization systems, CRM (Salesforce.com) and business apps (Google Apps of docs, email and calendaring). Strategic Executive Technology Consultant

Responsibilities:

  • Grew the company from 3 to 135 employees, 25 contractors with three multi-year service contracts and $23 million in annual revenues, with over 100 of those employees and contractors under my direct supervision.
  • Designed and implemented a massive Delta Dental Project to replace the entire aging infrastructure of the San Francisco tower/headquarters with Y2K compliant systems and technology during the ongoing building of a new three building 400,000 sq ft. campus and data center in Rancho Cordova. Completed on time and on budget.
  • Created and managed Caspian’s (97-02) and Delta Dental of California’s (97-01) Technology Master Plan (TMP as the CTO for both companies) to ensure that the services of IT were providing for the business requirements of each department.
  • Established a HIPAA consulting practice for Delta Dental of CA that expanded to 7 other Delta Dental affiliates and Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Seattle and the Delta National Association.
