PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential - Bethesda MD
Senior Systems Analyst
Responsibilities:
- Revenue Management is multi-tier application with data store DB2 for z/OS.
- I’ve been working primarily on Database and Application design, development of DB2 Stored Procedures - COBOL and Native, Triggers, Performance Monitoring and Tuning.
- I worked on 3 large and successful projects and a variety of smaller projects as technical team lead and team member.
- Time Zone Region Processing for Group Data
- The major focus of the project was to allow 24x7 availability and improve critical data accuracy for International Properties via performing database updates at Time Zone level.
- The project entails Single Group Data Store (SGDS) database partitioning and associated code changes to utilize the new database structure, establishing batch processing schedules at Time Zone level for all inbound applications. The second large segment of the project were the downstream applications, which utilize SGDS database in batch and online. The major complexity was the scope - a large number of components subject to analysis and change. We also acheaved exceptional performance improvement - in some instances over 80% elapsed time and 60% CPU savings.
- Group Pricing Optimizer (GPO 2.0) - SOA with multiple consumers, the most critical of which Marriott.com. Mutitier environment environment incorporating IBM mainframe, Websphere Application Server, Unix, etc.
- The objective of the project was to improve performance and reduce response time and cost. My through analysis revealed that the main reason for performance drawback was the excessive small DRDA calls - dynamic SQL and single statement stored procedures. The application was restructured and rewritten, where necessary. By means of consolidation and utilization of efficient DB2 features and techniques we achieved substantial reduction of the number of messages and database calls which provided considerable performance improvement. It also improved the maintainability of the application.
- Function Space Availability - Mutitier environment incorporating IBM mainframe, Websphere Application Server, Unix, etc. The service provides group reservations for function rooms through Marriott.com. I worked on POC, database and application design, and development of DB2 Stored Procedures, volume testing, performance monitoring.
- Conversion of Opera properties to CI, medium size project, which migrates and converts property data from one sales and catering system(OPERA) to another(CI).
Environment: IBM Mainframe, z/OS, Enterprise COBOL, REXX, DB2 9/DB2 10, SQL, SPUFI, BMC Catalog Manager, BMC Utilities, BMC MainView, BMC Apptune, BMC Log Master, IBM Development Center, IBM Data Studio, TSO/ISPF, Panvalet, PanApt, CA-7, JCL, IBM System Utilities, Syncsort, IBM DB2 Utilities.

- I was in charge of the conversion of the application from VSAM to DB2. Worked primarily on DB2 and CICS environment configuration, data conversion, performance tuning, analysis and design of interfaces to in-house claim applications.
- Worked on prior and subsequent releases of the application, which introduce business and functional enhancements to satisfy HIPAA or BCBS Association standards. I also provided production support on rotational basis. Under my quidance, the team managed to reduce application failures to negligible minimum.
- Unified System Services (USS) - A multi-tier application, which provides unified, web-based interface to medical claims data, benefits, subscriber details for Maryland and DC. Available in all Customer Service Offices.
- I worked on Design and Development of DB2 Stored Procedures in DB2 for z/OS, which provide claims and benefits information. My responsibilities were Analysis, Design, Development, Performance Analysis and Tuning, all aspects of testing, implementation.
- I also worked on:
- Ad-hoc reports, requested by Business Analysts for in-dept data analysis, identification of potential inaccuracies or discrepancies, or for auditing purposes.
- CareFirst specific DB2 environment set up for efficient testing and validation.

Senior Software Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Detailed design, development, unit and integration testing, and implementation on project Global Income Control (GIC).
- GIC processes Domestic and Foreign Corporative Actions and Dividends. It is a mainframe application, operating on IBM zSeries. The data is stored in DB2 and CA-Datacom DB databases, accessed online via CICS transactions. Considering that State Street offices and sub-custodians are geographically dispersed, the centralized online systems operate 24x7x365, and there is no dedicated batch processing window. The batch runs in parallel with the online application, which makes software design and coding demanding and challenging.
- I worked on several projects - batch an online, in DB2, or DB2/Datacom mixture environment in close cooperation with SSC DBA personnel to synchronize performance and availability requirements.
- I worked on technical specification, development, documentation, test plans, unit, volume and stress testing and implementation.
