Design Engineer
Confidential, Alpharetta, GA
Responsibilities:
- Completed design and prototype development for Dual-Centrifugal Fan Resistor Gridbox deployed on Hitachi’s EH4500 and EH5000 giant mining dump trucks, for heat dissipation during electrical retardation (braking).
- Successfully completed design upgrade and pilot run of the Single-Centrifugal Fan Resistor Gridbox. Airflow improvements through simulations reduced losses from 40% to 14% and carbon-fiber fan design improved overall efficiency of the system. Improved system design helped Siemens won multi-million dollar contracts.
- Significant design responsibility for the ‘Inverter enclosure assembly’ on Hitachi EH4500 and EH5000.
- Extensive collaboration with overseas vendors and Hitachi Engineers to gather end requirements and develop a prototype that can replace the operational Gridbox in the mines.
- Design for operation under extreme temperatures and dust conditions; maintain ambient air flow, normal working temperatures and necessary lighting.
- Work with cross functional teams for electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic testing of the assembly.

Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D and 2D design of complex automotive power train components, including designing the parting line, maintaining wall thickness, boss sizes, filleting, gate locations and drafts. Worked on sand castings, die casted, sheet metal and plastic components.
- Developed parts of varying complexity like engine blocks, crank case covers, cylinder head, chain case, oil pan, rocker cover, intake and exhaust manifolds and crankshafts.
- Used CAD annotations, exterior and interiors class A surfacing modeling, BIW filleting and harness development.
- The fuel distribution featured 4000 liters of diesel fuel storage, 80 liters/min calibrated fuel dispensing in rough and inaccessible terrain with one manpower resource and using Tractor PTO drive as power source.
- The design addressed the problems of intensive labor requirements by replacing 5-6 operators by 1. Several hundred production hours per day added by eliminating machinery downtime due to fuel shortage/contamination.
- Lower repairs due to cleaner storage of Fuel / hydraulic oil.
- Performed Cost v/s Performance analysis for off road excavation machinery.
- Was responsible to oversee limestone production and maintenance schedules of the machinery in use.
