Process Simulation Engineer

  • I am part of the Body In White Advanced Manufacturing Engineering department, under the Virtual Manufacturing Delivery team.
  • My role is to support Manufacturing Engineering and Production Operations by employing virtual manufacturing techniques to prove manufacturing feasibility, enabling robust design and manufacturing assembly prior to component manufacture.
  • Product & Process manufacturing feasibility analysis, strong connection with Process Engineers and Product Department to find the best solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, re - usability from zero concept to the execution.
  • Supporting Process Planning and Vendor Partners design reviews/meetings.
  • Managing Vendor Partners resource to meet the Virtual Manufacturing deliverables.
  • Validating Vendor Partners tooling and cell designs/simulations adhered to company standards. Supporting Buy-Offs the Delivery of Supplier Tooling Design and Simulations, Off-Line Programs, Final Job1+90 of the facility, running at rate, meeting design cycle times and also supporting site installs.
  • Controlling Project Documentations.
  • Managing data which includes CAD products imports, Virtual equipment libraries and data exchange with Vendors.
  • Supporting software development (Key User interface with IT Methods).
  • Carrying out User Acceptance Testing for new software releases, capturing and feedback issues/enhancement to IT and software developers.
  • 75% of my experience is in RobCAD simulating assembly feasibility of aluminum body panels.
  • Gripper handling, Self-Pierce Rivet, Weld studs, gluing methods on the Upper body of the vehicle. Simulations mostly with Fanuc and ABB robots.

Simulation Engineer

  • After one year designing I was recommended to be a BIW Virtual Simulation Engineer.
  • I had to make sure that all elements designed and inserted into a semi or completely automatized work cell or area, together with the industrial robots that are welding/riveting and/or manipulating are working correctly.
  • We use this kind of simulation also for testing assembly sequence, part clearances, tooling clearances, cycle time and reducing the cycle time as much as possible, to choose the correct robot, gun or tool to cooperate with the layout designers and mechanical tool designers and also to assure the safety and ergonomics of any human operator that is present in the area.

Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Designing the equipment’s and devices for body welding/riveting and assembly lines in the automotive industry. 3D concepts and 2D technical drawings.
  • As a 2D Detail Engineer my responsibility it was to make technical drawings and documentations (detailing, assembly drawing, geometrical tolerance, bill of materials, layout and general assembly) for the designed elements so they can be executed correctly according to the requirements.
  • After the 2D Detail Engineer position I was recommended to be a 3D Design Engineer with the responsibility to design BIW tooling for welding/riveting stations that include geometry stations and fixtures from low to high complexity.
  • I used Catia V5 software in several Fiat and Jaguar Land Rover projects.
