Dedicated Support Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior - level support across the Confidential Documentum product suite.
  • Current responsibility with Confidential is technical support for customers purchasing a the highest tier of product support.
  • My role divides my time between four clients, to assist their technical teams with issues surrounding the installationmaintenance, issue identification and resolution, and upgrade of their Documentum-based enterprise document management infrastructure.
  • Work to isolate and classify product issues, and when the issue is with the core application code, I work with our development teams to have the code corrected, tested and delivered to the customer.
  • Provide status reports to my clients, and host weekly status meetings to go over open issues, future product needs, and planning.
  • Go on-site with the customers on occasion for in-person meetings, to review current and future architecture, discuss direction, and place faces with voices and names.
  • Internally to Confidential, I help to automate or simplify support processes by making suggestions to management, and to evaluate solutions to business needs.
  • I provide recommendations on ways to improve and streamline support processes to enable the team to more readily focus on resolving issues, than spending time on non-core activities.
  • When custom solutions are created for these processes, I work with the solution architect to further fine-tune or enhance the capabilities of the developed tools, to make processes bulletproof.
  • My role has me go well beyond the scope of our products to troubleshoot issues involving outside integration points. These include the traditional hosting processes: Application servers, operating systemsand networking.
  • It also includes non-hosting processes, such as IP redirectors (load-balancers), single sign-on, LDAP, Active Directoryforward and reverse proxies, HTTP servers, and more.
  • I have to be well versed in the different relational databases.
  • These include Oracle, SQL Server, and IBM DB2. Duties involve installationconfiguration, and performance troubleshooting.
  • I work together with customer database administrators to assist in these tasks when needed.
  • I also have to be well versed on the different operating system platforms prevalent in the enterprise. This includes the different Windows server flavors (2000, 2003, 2008), as well as the various UNIX/Linux flavors (HP-UX, AIX, Solaris on the traditional UNIX side, and RedHat, SUSE, CentOS on the Linux end).

  • Although typically very simple, there are times that newly installed Java versions or application coexistence issues arise.
