Confidential

Sr. Systems Administrator and Sr. Software Developer

Responsibilities:

  • In charge of all aspects of Linux and Unix servers Systems Administration (around 70 Linux and 2 Unix Servers). Heavy expertise in installation, kernel configuration, file systems configuration, protocols configurations, performance increase and security. On-call 24/7, 365 days even on vacation days .
  • Fixed severe issues in Linux and Unix Servers: OS configuration, capacity, networking, security, data (corruption), and performance. Debugged and fixed causes of recurrent soft and hard kernel panics.
  • Traveled regularly to remote locations (Prescott, AZ, Nogales, AZ, Tucson, AZ) to fix Linux related issues (severe file system corruption, loss of configuration files, DHCP clients crashes).
  • With the IT team (3 additional members), completed the installation of the new company's Eye Care Management and POS system (COS) on top of Linux (Red Hat). Linux servers and Linux desktops (Red Hat and Gnome) were deployed in Headquarters and in all the 65 remote locations and in the 2 Medical Centers.
  • Migrated company's email servers from a third party hosting company to our own Linux servers (Red Hat). The cost of adding new accounts, space and features was becoming too expensive. The reliability of the email services were shaky at best. With Qmail on Linux (Red Hat) and all the necessary plug-ins I was able to create email systems that were almost free, completely secure, with almost unlimited capabilities and 100 % reliability. Patching the code of the MTA and its plug-ins rendered additional capabilities and security.
  • Wrote Bash and Python scripts for Linux Email server to increase security, to scan and modify emails contents in real time traffic and to automate as much as possible Sys Admin tasks and to comply with HIPPA regulations.
  • With the IT group transitioned the old and shaky company network into a Frame Relay network. Configured Cisco routers (2600 and 3600) and all kinds of switches. Collaborated with Qwest networks to fix any issues with the network. Increased security of the network thru modifications of routers configurations. Troubleshoot of all kinds of issues related to local networking.
  • Thru the usage of massive storage devices (disks and tapes) attached to Linux servers (Red Hat and Mandriva) created a reliable enterprise-wide back up system for all Linux and Unixware servers ’ data and for many of the individual Windows PCs in the company. Wrote Bash and Python programs to backup and archive all kinds of data.
  • Migrated Web servers from a third party hosting company to our own installations. Migrated public web sites from Unix to Linux (Centos 5) and Windows (2000, Asp Classic) to Windows (2008, Asp .Net) and troubleshooted all issues from the migration. Very good in porting web sites from Windows to Linux and vice-versa. Ported and troubleshooted code in public web sites so they could function in their new environment. Created new programs to replace non portable programs. Replaced and migrated web sites' expensive MS SQL Servers with MySQL servers. Chose new registrar and set up registrar's information (DNS, MX, Mail, FTP, etc., records).
  • Migrated the most important but aging main Linux Server (Red Hat, COS) to new hardware while keeping the older Linux kernel (due to version restriction of the ABI libraries that allow FoxPro's OpenServer binaries to run on top of Linux). I researched, modified and patched C source codes of kernel, device drivers and libraries .
  • Created the first and only Intranet web site for the whole company. The site evolved from being a site used exclusively by IT to a site where the personnel including all the remote locations can get the data and applications they need. The site is powered by HTML, Python and Java running on Apache on top of Linux (Mandriva).
  • Tech. Support Escalation for all the other members to the IT group i.e. Last l ine of defense in IT.
  • Debugged all custom made applications (insurance system, patients scheduling and follow up system, doctors scheduling system, billing system) running on Unix and Windows fixing massive amounts of issues that had been unresolved for years. In all, it took me about 2 years to fix the most urgent issues.
  • Cleaned up insurance company's databases generating anew completely consistent data.
  • Enhanced applications with new features: realistic ID cards generator, real-time invoices checking, personnel data access security protections and logging, improved doctors' scheduler, realistic-looking invoices generator, invoice encryption and password protecting.
  • Created a number of applications designed to provide strategic information that the commercial applications were unable to provide: Patients Recalls, Patients Utilization, Employees Bonuses, Stores/Employees Sales, Plans Utilization, Groups Utilization, Plans/Members Censuses.
  • Created HIPPA implementations: Hicfa 837 Generator, Full Hicfa 834 Processor.
  • Created ETL programs for groups ETLs in order to process disparate data sources.
  • Created applications and Stored Procedures to allow for inter-systems data imports/exports.
  • Created a new and improved billing system that include improved invoices generators, groups invoices fusion, invoices encryption and validated automatic invoices transmission.
