Network Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for migrating workstations from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional from the Social Security Administration Headquarters, West Campus to all of the site locations throughout the U.S. and other countries. Terminal server was used to remotely connect to servers and workstations as a member of the Global Administrator group.
  • The process started with downloading the XP image to the site’s MMS server (Managed Member Server) then running workstation backups using a .Net Framework application from the server. On the day of migration, I connected to the site’s server and ran Symantec GhostCast Server to download the XP image to workstations connected to the LAN using a multicast session.
  • After the image download completed to the workstations, I ran the SAS server and Server Support applications to restore them from their backup with all the necessary files, system variables and network settings necessary to rejoin the domain.
  • I performed troubleshooting steps on Dell OptiPlex GX260, 270 and 280 systems and Compaq Deskpro EN systems as well as, but not limited to, Dell Power Edge servers running Windows 2000 or 2003 server, Cisco 2600 series routers and 2900 series switches. Implemented throughout the SSA the transition from a paper file system to an electronic file infrastructure using Dell server racks configured with COTS and GOTS applications.
