Project Description
The Gap is a specialty retailer that operates stores selling Casual/ Fashion apparel for men, women and children. GAP is having the business through 3500 stores all over the world. (The United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan). GAP procures goods from Vendors, stocks them in Distribution Centers and supplies them to the stores depending on the demand. This project provides round the clock production support of legacy systems, application enhancements and re-engineering.
In This SCaN is a web-based system backed up by legacy Mainframes for tracking the goods supplied by vendors till it reaches the GAP distribution centers. In this we have Online part of ScaN and batch part of ScaN.
The Online part of the system is in JAVA, designed in swing/applet components. The middle tier is designed in FORTE which is a fully object oriented environment and runs in a distributed environment. The backend is DB2/CICS running on mainframes. The communication between JAVA and FORTE is done through CORBA while FORTE and DB2 communicates through TUXEDO invoking CICS transactions.
The Batch part takes the messages from the EDI which are sent by vendors and updates the SCaN. This is being done by hourly jobs run for various message types and updates ScaN for Various events like X-Factory, IN-DC for that shipment or Purchase order.
SCaN system is designed to raise alerts if any planned activities are not on track which facilitates in decision making for the ScaN users.
