Senior UNIX Administrator

Responsibilities:
- Managed 20 Confidential - UX servers running versions 11.11 and 11.23. These servers were comprised of RP8400s, RP5400s, and RP7400s.
- Standardized the configuration of the servers to make then easier to manage.
- Used Confidential M/C ServiceGuard to create a three node cluster of critical applications such as Oracle and Supply Change Management (SCM) applications.
- Configured Confidential MeasureWare to monitor file system usage, resources on the servers, and various applications. MeasureWare would also send out an alert when critical thresholds were exceeded.
- Wrote scripts to automate various procedures, and to solve repetitive problems such as orphaned processes.
- Supported the Confidential Data Protector application for backups. Wrote scripts and scheduled backups in Control-M and cron. Took an environment where backups were failing daily to a level where backups had not failed in over two years. Backups were done directly from the file systems, Business Continuance Volume (BCV), and SnapShots.
- Created and supported file systems using Confidential Online JFS. Wrote scripts to create the Volume Groups (VG) and Logical Volumes (LV) as well as add an entry into the fstab file.
- Was in charge of disaster recovery (DR) testing of the Confidential -UX servers. Managed to bring up the Confidential -UX servers at Sungard within four hours. Using Ignite-UX images and backup tapes.
- Managed the Symmetrix DMX8000, and the Clariion disk arrays. Created and destroyed LUNs as required by the environment. Used the CLI symm commands for the DMX and the GUI for the Clariion.
- Created and maintained a software depot for the application of patches across the servers. This software depot also contained various Confidential applications used to upgrade the software.
- Upgraded the Confidential -UX OS from on all the servers.
- Performed analysis of the file systems used by Oracle, and implemented disk stripping to improve the performance of the file system and the Oracle application.
- Implemented and supported the StorageTek (SUN) SL8100 Tape Library and the ACSLS in a mixed environment.
- Implemented the Confidential ISEE application to send hardware problem alerts to Confidential Support.
- Configured Confidential EMS (Event Monitoring Service) to alert the system administrators to possible hardware problems on the servers.

- Managed two UNIX System Administrators, assigned resources to projects, and assisted them in day to day activities.
- Responsible for managing the budgets for new hardware acquisitions, server upgrades, and support contracts.
- Implemented OpenView ITO and Network node manager for Beckman which consisted of all sites located worldwide. This included sites in Europe, Asia, North America, Central America and Australia.
- Setup and implemented IDS9000 (Intrusion Detection Software) software across the enterprise.
- Setup and configured 16 Confidential 9000 servers for the Global Connect project. This was a completely new installation of UNIX and was started from the ground up.
- Managed 16 Confidential 9000 servers and a High Availability Observatory (HAO) which consisted of a mixture of L1000, L2000, L3000, N - Class and two V2600 servers connected to an XP256 via Brocade switches.
- Installed and configured Veritas NetBackup on two Confidential 9000 servers. One was configured as a master and the other as a slave in a Veritas Cluster Server configuration. These servers were attached to an Confidential A5597A, which is HPs version of the StorageTek tape library.
- Installed and configured Veritas Cluster Server on the servers running NetBackup.
- Implemented NFS/NIS+ throughout the Confidential -UX enterprise.
- Created a software depot for both patches and applications.
- Implemented Ignite UX for a make recovery of all Confidential -UX servers.
- Wrote scripts to split and pair the Business Copies (BC) on the XP-256.
- Wrote scripts for reporting purposes on the status of the UNIX backups, state of the servers, and the state of the high availability clusters.
- Wrote detailed instructions and procedures for setting up a new server, kernel configuration, general management of the servers.
- Implemented and managed M/C ServiceGuard on four of the servers. This included the creation of new packages and the maintenance of existing packages.
- Mirrored the root system disks using Mirror-UX, and then wrote scripts to split the mirrors for backup purposes.
- Used OnLine JFS (Advanced Journal File System) to create file systems for use in production, test and development. All file systems were optimized for optimum performance with Oracle databases and application servers.
- Configured MeasureWare to send pages and alerts via e-mail to other administrators. Alerts were also trapped by Confidential ITO. These parameters were set to monitor the state of the ServiceGuard packages, the network interface cards, disk usage and utilization, memory, and cpus.
- Generated custom reports using PerfView of different system metrics to determine optimum performance for the server.

- Implemented NIS (Network Information Services, formerly known as yellow pages) between the platforms.

- Implemented and configured several Confidential AutoRAID 12H disk farms.
- Implemented and configured Confidential OmniBack II backup software for the Confidential platforms.

- Installed and configured HPs PerfView and MeasureWare software for the monitoring of system performance. Include with the standard MeasureWare software was the Oracle Database component.

- Installed patches on the Confidential -UX 10.20 operating system to bring it up to Y2K compliance.
- Created a centralized software depot for all the applicable patch installations.
- Installed and set-up an HP9000/700 series platform for the monitoring of the servers (Novell, NT, UNIX) and the network devices (Routers, Hubs, etc ). This included the following:
- Installed and configured Confidential OpenView Network Node Manager. Created a simple go/no go monitoring screen for the operators.
- Installed and configured Confidential OpenView Information Technology Organization (ITO) for the monitoring of the servers.
- Installed the ITO agents on the Novell, NT and UNIX servers (which included DEC UNIX, and Solaris environments).
- Created a PerfView and MeasureWare collection station for the SAP/R3 servers.
- Created ITO templates to collect and monitor certain activities on the servers.
- Created e-mail notification of events, which may lead, to inoperable situation for the servers.
- Installed and created Oracle databases for the collection of the data from all of the servers.

- Created an imaging solution for the various Confidential campaigns whereby the latest and greatest deals for the commercial dealers are sent either by FAX or by e-mail, thereby reducing the notification time from one week to 24 hours.
