  • Team lead Unix system administrator of 2 in a 24x7 environment to provide automated procurement of personal services to corporations.
  • Optimized batch file feed from customers from 12 hours to 2-3 hours. Developers used java XML parser to extract data and load to the database. After careful analysis, I introduced using xlstproc with a shell wrapper. This reduced the load time dramatically by 80%.
  • Created from scratch a centralized syslog architecture to capture all syslog messages. This solution consisted of parsing the syslog log file and injecting critical messages to a MySQL database. Another service queried the database and escalated the issues via email and a web interface.
  • Created processes and procedures to deploy code into production. When I first arrived, a production rollout would take 3-4 hours. After the process and procedure, production rollouts came down to 30 minutes. I created a staging environment to prevent engineers from deploying straight to production.
  • Revamped development/QA/Staging/Production environment to standardize on OS images, package installation using rpms and Solaris pkg format. This allowed easier script automation and troubleshooting. All environments were then monitored by Cricket and Big Brother and Sitescope.
