PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Senior Systems Engineer

Confidential, Philadelphia, PA

Responsibilities:

  • Immediately began with scripting the migration of roaming profiles from a single physical Windows 2003 server to a physical Windows 2008 cluster. I utilized redirection to shrink profiles and improve login times (this cluster was later virtualized). I later began virtualizing the Citrix PS 4.5 environment (VMWare ESX) and created templates and automated builds for PS 4.5 server deployment. Responsibilities gradually expanded to include automation and providing the help desk with tools for troubleshooting. For example, created streamlined launch scripts for improved user experience and additional logging for troubleshooting purposes. I later began migrating the growing 1500+ concurrent user base from Presentation Server 4.5 to a XenApp/XenDesktop 7.6, shared desktop environment. This includes a new SQL 2012 datastore for farms (later migrated to clustered setup). Stood up PVS 6.1 servers and golden image for XenApp 6.5 environment which were later consolidated into the 7.6 environment. Built - out Microsoft App-V infrastructure for packaging and delivering specific in house applications and middleware for apps with specific requirements. Racked and set up two clustered Netscalers for load balancing internal Web Interface and Storefront servers as well as Netscaler Gateway for secure, external access. Also set up additional load balancer VIPs for a major in-house web application accessed by customers.
  • Assisted help desk to increase productivity by creating VBScripts (e.g., a script to assist help desk in resetting corrupted profiles) and later expanded on this by learning C# and developing tools to more effectively aid the help desk. Such tools aided in user account and Exchange mailbox creation and troubleshooting Citrix session issues as well as profile problems. Built extensive help desk tool which provides information about users' individual circumstances when problems occur, which eased communication between the help desk and server administrators. These tools range from use with Citrix 4.5 to 7.6, and interface with the Citrix SDK, Exchange, Active Directory and Windows file systems. I also developed a number of AD group management tools and a fully automated PVS test and production management and change logging tool.
  • Used creative problem-solving and imagination to develop efficient, productivity-enhancing improvements for server administrators, the help desk, and other departments. In under two years, automated entire original job description, which enabled a transition into more creative and productive tasks for Confidential .

Citrix Server Administrator

Confidential, Houston, TX

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for solving critical performance-related issues on over 2000 servers, as well as assessing Citrix server architecture. Used OpenView ticket system to provide solutions for day-to-day Citrix problems. Within two weeks, achieved a sufficient level of autonomy and solved many problems that occurred on an $11 billion-per-year-producing in-house application, which provided troubleshooting experience in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Introduced optimizations into the application launch scripts to ensure peak performance and maximum uptime, providing experience in optimizing code for smooth and stable performance.
  • In addition to these responsibilities, planned and built out a new virtualized Citrix XenApp 5.0 farm on VMware, modifying install scripts as necessary in order to migrate existing applications to the new server farm, providing experience in data migration and automation as well as virtual machine optimization. At the same time, I added new servers and decommissioned old ones in the server farm, modifying existing installation manager packages as necessary and working with application teams for testing purposes.
  • Provided on-call support for partners and internal departments, increasing fluency in user-support.

Citrix Server Administrator

Confidential, Houston, TX

Responsibilities:

  • Supported 75+ Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers running Citrix Presentation Server v.4.0 and Citrix Metaframe XP. Began with limited Citrix independence, but achieved learning curve within three weeks, fostering my drive and ability to learn key skills. Created installation manager scripts using WFS, batch file, and MSI packaging for application installs, which enhanced my technical precision and efficiency at automating repetitive tasks.
  • Was responsible for building 32 Windows 2003 and Windows 2000 servers, a SQL Datastore for a Citrix farm of 32 HP DL360 servers, as well as reconfiguring and migrating applications and installation manager scripts to the new environment. Also responsible for (and succeeded in) implementing a separate Citrix farm of 20 Windows 2000/2003 servers, as well as building the web interfaces for the servers.
  • Improved troubleshooting and user-focused empathy by solving complex day-to-day issues, which also improved ability to conceptualize creative solutions to seemingly-insolvable problems. Gained considerable experience supporting and troubleshooting the day to day Citrix user issues such as printers, profiles, application problems, upgrades and repackaging as well as the Active Directory user object problems.
  • Other responsibilities included: racking, wiring, and building new Citrix servers; building VMWare ESX 3.5 server for the purpose of testing new applications, scripts, and Web interfaces; supporting overflow of work with user and group creation; and Lotus Notes administration. Ultimately became "go-to" admin for Domino-related issues.

Support Services Analyst

Confidential, Houston, TX

Responsibilities:

  • Wrote web based software using PHP and mySQL for departmental testing and QA, which gave me hands-on experience in the large scale planning, executing, and deploying of an internal web application. In addition to creating and deploying projects on servers, provided support and administrative services on primary Novell NDS tree, creating NDPS printers and users, resetting passwords, and assigning rights and permissions as necessary, increasing my aptitude at providing quick and efficient support.
  • Eventually earned technical lead position for all new application and technical architecture implementations as a result of fluency with architectural and deployment challenges and solutions.
