Responsibilities:
- During the acquisition of Confidential by Confidential, I was invited to join the organization to streamline our event processing infrastructure. Engineering and guiding development to produce a solid platform that ingests over 1.5 billion events a day worldwide. The data storage and analytics infrastructure had to be architected in a way to adhere with EU's Data Protection Directive, and Safe Harbor laws.
- Carefully architecting elasticsearch mappings, and ingestion points utilizing Consul service discovery, and DNS, provided the ability to give a global elasticsearch cluster to ingest, and provide analytics to our customers. Engineering push notifications with Lambda, and SQS, optimized our delivery of events back to the mobile platform.
- My setup of utilizing all spot-fleet instances globally, more advanced metrics collection, global HA utilizing Route53, consul, and etcd2, it lowered our costs significantly. Automated provisioning for feature-stacks utilizing terraform, in an all docker immutable infrastructure, gave the company a faster push for new features for our platform with simple one-click provisioning utilizing Jenkins 2.x and GitLab. My architecture of a self-scalable Jenkin’s slaves with customized pipelines made a huge difference compared to what was in place before.

- Such architecture setup gave us the ability to push all of our EC2 instances in spot, enabling us to save around 90% in infrastructure costs. Implemented full monitoring of all aspects of the infrastructure including CloudTrail, CloudFront, ELB’s, Route53, and specific AWS API lambda polling to monitor even Spot pricing towards ElasticSearch/influxDB/Kapacitor which enabled us to automatically scale based on specific thresholds and effectively use Spot-Fleet’s to scale up/down automatically. Architected and directed every step, from creating efficient Docker images that enabled for rapid deployment and development that we could bring up our entire large infrastructure and fully taking traffic in less than 4 minutes utilizing Terraform.
