CIO

Responsibilities:

  • A review of internal departmental organizational efficiency by our new CEO showed a need for closer departmental coordination and shared goals. I worked with a consultant to customize balanced scorecard software for the organization and train the executive team and key staff on usage. Resulted in quarterly KPI measurements, improved organizational collaboration and improved bottom line results for both departments and the organization.
  • I developed an organization wide information systems analysis and shared with the Executive Management team. The report highlighted areas where systems were supporting individual departments, not the overall organization. Received approval to consolidate multiple systems into a single cloud based CRM system for organization wide use. Improved data sharing and visibility across the entire organization, reduced operating costs, realigned team resources and increased business opportunities.
  • Website event registrations and updates to events calendars required excessive staff work to maintain. Upgraded ecommerce website to fully integrate with new CRM system to provide live updates to website event descriptions based on staff changes on the back end, real time ecommerce capabilities and ability to track abandoned cart activity to follow up with members.
  • Several sales departments within the organization were not coordinating efforts on proposals to large clients. Worked with sales teams to develop a holistic approach to proposal development that was supported by the CRM Dynamics system used by all departments. Improved visibility by internal staff on sales efforts provided several quick wins with large customers.
  • Significant costs and man hours were spent maintaining internal Groupwise email system. Researched and selected Google Business Apps as a replacement. Developed a migration plan, selected a vendor to assist and migrated the organization to cloud based GMail. Significant savings in capital for server, storage, licensing, backups and offsite recovery were realized, along with better mobile support for staff on multiple device types.
  • The CEO required the executive team to establish a cross organizational budget reflective of a new organizational strategy. Working with executive management I created a multi year IT plan and budget which resulted in significantly reduced operating costs and improved productivity through new systems implementations and customization to support strategic goals.
  • Increasing numbers of media and vendors at the DRC’s Mackinac Policy Conference were straining the aging network infrastructure and service provider feed of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Worked with Grand Hotel technology staff to improve internal network infrastructure and get fiber internet connectivity deployed at the hotel. Worked out a deal with the ISP to allow significant bandwidth dial up for the period the conference is held each year.
  • Small managed services company had a home office and local presence in Kalamazoo, but no way to take advantage of rapid Detroit metropolitan growth. In 2015 I proposed opening a Detroit office for them to develop new business, learn more about the market and develop a strategic plan to expand into the Detroit area. Less than 3 years later, recurring monthly revenue from new client business is able to sustain 3 engineers and a sales person in the Detroit office, making up a significant portion of overall company revenues.
  • Numerous incidents of operating system crashes resulted in many people requiring help retrieving data from their computers. I created a Linux software product on a USB stick that would allow a non - technical user to retrieve their data by inserting the stick and turning the computer on. Went to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and got my first wholesale deal. Entered the 2013 Great Lakes Entrepreneur's Quest and won first prize ($10,000) in the Lean Startup, Information Technology Innovation category.
