Responsibilities:

  • Identified Active Directory replication issues caused by recent Active Directory architecture changes. Issue was impacting the Desktop Teams ability to manage the VDI environment due to VMware View recompose issues. Developed and implemented a plan to allow Active Directory replication to return normal and the VMware View recompose issue was resolved.
  • Conducted a five-month engagement with Dell/EMC VxRail and VMware support to gain stability in the VxRail virtual server environment.
  • Conducted a multi-month engagement with Dell/EMC Data Domain support to gain performance and stability on the Data Domain platform for Veeam, TSM, and other enterprise backups.
  • Identified redundancy in Microsoft server licensing. Conducted a new physical and virtual server deployment analysis and made a recommendation of Windows Server OS and SCCM licensing reduction resulting in a saving to the organization of $295K dollars.
  • Rightsized HIM virtual application server stack to aid in the reduction of virtual server cluster CPU resources to address cluster CPU resource issues as well as improve overall application performance by reducing application server vCPU ready times and adding more guest memory. Reduced server application stack vCPU usage by 26 vCPUs.
  • Eliminated a single point of failure on the Data Domains by moving authentication for replication and DD Boost traffic to a bonded interface. The single point of failure was eliminated, and long delayed core switch maintenance was able to be conducted.
  • Conducted a six-month engagement with Dell/EMC VxRail, VMware, and Veeam support in addressing vCenter stability issues caused by VxRail Manager appliances negatively impacting Veeam and capacity planning tools. The end result was a stable vCenter 6.7 environment allowing VxRail upgrades to 4.7 code.
  • Conducted a four-month engagement with Nexsan/Assureon support to upgrade Assureon hardware and code to gain platform stability and increased archive data availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Architected new VMware environments allowing a single pane of glass management of multiple sites and future High Availability for vCenter. External load balanced PSCs and vCenter Linked Mode were used to accomplish this. Migrated windows based vCetnter servers to VCSAs.
  • Architected new Veeam/Replication infrastructure for easier backup management and greater data protection effectively using GHS Data Domain and Fiber Channel infrastructure for Veeam Backup copy repository connectivity. Existing server hardware was repurposed along with additional SSDs to provide high performance primary Veeam repositories.
  • Designed and implemented vCenter tagging schemes for Veeam as well as future uses cases to leverage vCenter tags.
  • Deployed vRealize Log Insight and Operations Manager to better manage new virtual environments.
  • Found a major WAN issue, which impacted traffic between the hospital and the primary data center causing DB backup failures, radiology application performance issues, and overall network performance issues. Once addressed, the reestablished normal traffic flow led to the discovery of a separate core routing issue causing additional network performance issues that was also able to be resolved.
