- Lead the effort to migrate several highly integrated services to a new data center. Primary responsibilities included: Data Center Layout, Network Design, Infrastructure Implementation and Mail Services Migration. Based on the scope of this project and the requirement to maintain service availability, an implementation time table of six months was very aggressive. All services were successfully migrated with minimal service interruption, on time and within budget.
- Designed, planned and implemented a network security scheme. Multiple network layers with layer 3 filters were implemented to isolate server to server traffic.
- Designed the infrastructure for and installed the hardware and software to support the Managed Personal Firewall service. The service is based on Zone Labs Integrity Advanced Server. Load balanced Apache web servers were used to manage client connections and serve the administration web page.
- Implemented an Instant Messaging platform based on the Jabber Commercial Server and utilizing LDAP & Oracle backend processes.
- Aided in the migration of the Internet mail service from a proprietary system to an Confidential &T Labs developed SMTP/POP/IMAP solution (Maillennium). The migration consisted of moving two million mailboxes and changing out the inbound & outbound SMTP MTAs to Maillennium MTAs. The migration included a switch to LDAP for user authentication.
- Implemented a monitoring system using open source utility Big Brother. Big Brother allowed us to consolidate the monitoring of several different OS platforms into a single system. Also wrote environment specific monitors in Perl and integrated them into Big Brother.
- Implemented Brightmail Anti-spam and Anti-virus filtering and Maillennium user filters as an enhancement to both our POP3/IMAP and SMTP Mail Relay e-mail services.
- Provided implementation support for the migration of SMTP Mail Relay from the sendmail to Maillennium.
- Wrote tools to automate system maintenance processes using Perl and Korn shell. These tools included scripts to detect and block spam automatically.
