IT Infrastructure Operations
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for hands-on operational support of our global infrastructure, consisting of 1 Data Center and 14 remote city offices, including more than 700 Windows servers, 100 Linux servers, 1200 desktops, 1 VMWare cluster, and 30 individual VMWare ESXi machines. Storage capabilities for the Data Center included 2 - Nimble Storage Arrays and 1 - HP P6550 SAN consisting of over 450TB usable space.
- Developed, administered and tracked a $625K budget for data center capital, operations and maintenance costs. Managed all hardware purchases, maintenance contracts and deployment initiatives, with a primary emphasis on cost savings.
- Primary systems architect for Confidential ’s server infrastructure.
- Developed Confidential ’s global server update process. This process was used to update all Confidential servers with Microsoft security updates, as well as HP driver and firmware updates, keeping each device within 30 days of the most recent vendor releases.
- Worked closely with the desktop support team to ensure a refreshed computer inventory in all corporate offices, updating computer operating systems and other important software, as needed.
- Researched and implemented Turbonomic, an application used to optimize VMWare performance. This decision resulted in the decommission of 5 VMWare hosts, with over $150,000 in license and hardware savings.
- Successfully planned and executed the deployment of a Nimble CS4400G-X2 and a Nimble CS500 Storage array, with 275TB of combined storage capacity. Both vendor and local team resources were required for this initiative.
- Responsible for the planning and deployment of Microsoft’s Azure backup solution to file servers in the Paris, London, Hong Kong and Dallas offices; accounting for 31TB of data. This has allowed for an increase in offsite storage capability and reduced management of backup resources in each of these office locations.
- Performed the migration of more than 70TB of live production data between two HP storage platforms. One of these SAN’s, an HP EVA4400; was later re-purposed for use by Confidential ’s VMWare Environments. This hardware re-purpose allowed us to delay the purchase of additional storage for more than 3 years, at substantial savings to the company.
- Executed the deployment of an HP EVA 4400 SAN, and a 3 node VMWare ESXi Cluster to Confidential ’s Paris office. Upon completion of this initiative, a data center migration was performed from Vitry, France; to Confidential ’s Paris office.
- Implemented plans for international office relocations, migrations, and consolidations following the acquisition of Harris Interactive, including coordinating projects in London, Paris, Manchester, Hamburg, and Frankfurt.
- Ensured 100% uptime while performing London, Paris, Toronto, Encino, and Sherman Oaks city office relocations. All network, server, and desktop equipment were moved between offices, during weekends, with no disruption to the business.
- Configured and deployed a complex, new backup infrastructure for the Confidential data center. This infrastructure included a fiber connected MSL8096 Tape Library and HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System.
- Installed Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers in preparation for upgrading the functional level of five domains and a forest.
- Increased UPS run time by 10 minutes and eliminated an overload condition by implementing a solution for monitoring and balancing data center power usage.
- Prevented downtime by creating a standard network interface card (NIC) configuration, enabling servers in the data center to be fault-tolerant in the event of a switch failure.
- Prevented data loss by creating a robust disaster recovery process, including developing a phase-oriented testing environment.
- Identified and mitigated a Christmas day ransomware attack affecting 1 Data Center and 5 remote city offices. Encrypted data was restored from backups and no ransom was payed.
- Created and coached a team to be responsible for AWS planning and deployment initiatives. This was done in preparation for an initiative to migrate data center resources to the cloud.
- Directed facilities management requirements including UPS, fire suppression system, HVAC and building generators.
- Responsible for 24 X 7 X 365 data center support, with a documented 99.8% uptime rating, over the past 8 years.
